Abstract

An internal safety guard has a three legged grille which locates inside an outer ring 1 and expands by the means of two adjusting screws 3, located in two of the grille legs 4. This enables the guard to be secured internally without the use of any permanent fixtures. <IMAGE>

Description

INTERNAL SAFTETY GUARD This Invention relates to an Internal Safety Guard.
Guards are used to stop people gaining access to dangerous areas. Guards used on circular drainage pipes or shafts are fixed externally by the means of screws or bolts to a surrounding header wall or similar method. In remote areas it would be expensive and time consuming to build header walls around pipes so a guard could be secured.
The Internal Guard fits inside the circular pipe and is expanded by the means of two adjustment screws and an expanding ring. It involves no permant fixtures.
Figure 1 shows complete guard.
Figure 2 shows the extending screw mechanism.
Figure 3 shows the extending screw mechanism again.
Referring to the drawing the guard comprises of an expanding ring 1, safety grille 2 and adjusting screws 3.
The grille structure is made up of three tubular struts 4 and spacer rings 5 and spacing of no more then lOOmm.
The expanding ring is a i ring with a stub 6, fixed at the centre point with two retainer edges 7, spaced on the ring at 1200 either side of the stub. The outside diameter of the stub should fit inside the tubular strut.
To install the guard fully return the adjustment screws and place the grille inside the expanding ring by inserting the strut on the stub, then place the complete guard inside the pipe square and the adjustment screws tightened outwards until the guard is secured in the pipe. Then lock locknuts 8 tightly.
The adjustment screws are studs with a flat ground on them, the bore of the two struts should be shaped to stop the stud turning while adjustments are being made as shown in figure 2u and figure 3.
To release guard, operations above should be done in reverse order.

Claims (2)

1. An internal safety guard comprising of an outer expanding ring and a three legged safety grille.
2. An internal safety guard as claimed in claim 1, wherein adjusters are provided on two of the legs on the grille to expand the outer ring.
