Description
TITLE: GEARSHIFT LOCK
The invention relates to a lock for locking the gearshift of a vehicle.
typical gearshift lock is disclosed in U.S.
Patent No. 4.693,099 to Cykman, filed May 13, 1986 and comprises a padlock which is disposed horizontally such that the key should be inserted horizontally. however, within the vehicle, it is difficult to engage the key into the lock. In addition, the gearshift can not be suitably protected such that the gearshift can also be cut off by cutting toois.
The invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional gearshift locks.
The invention is intended to provide a gearshift lock which comprises a housing including two apertures formed therein, a barrel provided on top of the housing with a suitable inclined angle and communicated with the interior of the housing. a lock fixed in the barrel and including a shank extended in the housing. a box fixed in the housing and including two grooves formed therein, a shackle including two legs engageable through the apertures of the housing and engageable in the grooves of the box, characterized in that the box includes a plate rotatably disposed therein and engaged with the shank of the lock, a pair of latches each includes a first limb moveable in a direct ion perpendicular to the plate and P. second limb in contact with the plate. and means for biasing the second limbs to contact with the plate and for biasing the first limbs to engage with the shackle in order to latch the shackle. the first limbs are caused to disengage from the shackle when the second limbs are moved away from each other by the plate. and the plate is rotated when the shank is rotated.
The barrel and the lock are preferably inclined with 45 degrees such that the users may easily insert the key into the lock.
The plate includes a first stub rotatably engaged in a bottom portion of the box and a second stub extended upward and rotatably engaged in the bos. the plate is engaged with the shank of the lock and is rotated by the shank when the shank is rotated.
It is preferable that a sleeve is engaged on a gearshift of a vehicle so as to protect the gearshift from being cut off. The sleeve includes two ears for engaging with the legs of the shackle a screw hole formed in each of the ears for engaging with a screw so as to fix the sleeve to the gearshift.
FIG. 1 is an exploded view of a gearshift lock;
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view of the lock;
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIG. 2;
FIGS. 4 and 5 are cross sectional views similar to
FIGS. 2 and 3 respectively for illustrating the operation of the locki FIG. 6 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the lock;
FIGS. 7 and 8 are plane views illustrating the application of the lock;
FIG. 9 is an exploded view illustrating a second embodiment of the lock: and
FIG. 10 is an exploded view illustrating a third embodiment of the lock.
Referring to the drawings and initially to FIGS.
1 to 3, a gearshift lock comprises a housing 1 having two screw holes 11 formed therein for engaging with screws 12 so as to fix the housing 1 to the upper portion of a rigid bar 10 which is fixedly affixed adjacent the gearshift 64 of the vehicle, the housing 1 including two apertures 13 for insertion of the shackle 4, a barrel 14 disposed on top of the housing 1 with a suitable inclined angle, for example, 45 degrees. a hole 15 formed in the barrel 14 for receiving a pin 16, a lock 17 fixed in the barrel 14 by the pin 16 and including a shank 19 rotatable by a predetermined key 18 when the key 18 is engaged in the key hole of the lock 17, a box 2 engaged in the housing 1 and fixed in place by pin elements 21, the box 2 including a hollow interior 20 for receiving a latch mechanism 3, the hollow interior 20 being communicated with the barrel 14; and a cap 5 fixed on the housing 1 for enclosing the housing 1 and including a key hole 51 formed therein for insertion of the key 18 and including two rings 52 for engaging the shackle 4. Because the lock 17 is disposed with a suitable angle. the users may easily insert the key 18 into the lock 1,.
The box 2 includes two grooves 22 formed therein for insertion of the legs of the shackle 4, a spring 23 received in each of the grooves 22, a hole 24 formed in the bottom portion of the box 2, the latch mechanism 3 includes a plate 31 having a stub 311 extended downward for engaging with the hole 4 and another stub 312 extended upward for engaging with a hole 27 formed in a beam 26. the beam 26 including two ends engaged in the depressions 25 formed in the upper portion of the box 2 such that the plat-e 31 is rotatable about the stubs 311. 312 and a pair of latches 3 disposed in the box 2 for engaging with the notches 41 of the shackle 4, best shown in FIG. 2, each of the latches 32 includes a first limb 320 movable in a direction perpendicular to the plate 31, and a second limb 321 arranged in parallel to the plate 31 and in contact with the plate 31, as shown in FIG. , the second limbs 321 of the latches 32 are biased to contact with the plate 31 by the springs 33, at this moment, the first limbs 320 are biased to engage with the notches 41 of the shackle 4 such that the shackle 4 can be latched within the box 2, and as shown in FIGS. 4 and D . when the shank 19 of the lock 17 is rotated, the plate 31 is caused to rotate about the stubs 311, 312 and the second limbs 321 are caused to move away from each other, the first limbs 320 are thus caused to move away from the legs of the shackle such that the shackle 4 can be disengaged from the lock 17. A lid 28 is fixed in the front portion of the box 2 for enclosing the
latch mechanism 3 within the box 2.
Referring next to FIGS. 1 and 6, a sleeve 6 which is heat treated is engaged on the stick 64 of the gearshift and includes two ears 62 for engaging with the legs of the shackle 4, a pad 61 engaged in the lower portion of the sleeve 6, a screw hole 65 formed in each of the ears 62 such that the screws 66 may fix the sleeve 6 to the stick 64 of the gearshift. a handgrip 63 is disposed on top of the stick 64. As best shown in FIGS. 6, 7 and 8, the stick 64 of the gearshift is suitably protected by the sleeve 6 such that the stick 61 can not be easily cut off.
Referring next to FIG. 9, instead of the sleeve 6 as shown in previous drawings, a sleeve 6' having a Ushaped cross section is shown and is provided to protect the stick of the gearshift, the sleeve 6' includes two rings 61' for engaging with the legs of the shackle 4 and includes a pad 62' disposed in the bottom portion thereof.
Referring next to FIG. 10, instead of the sleeves as shown in previous drawings, the shackle 4' may includes a sleeve 4 fixed thereon. and a lid 43' having an upper flange 44' and a lower flange 45' for engaging with the sleeve 42' the sleeve 42' is made of metal materials and is heat treated in order to increase the hardness thereof, the sleeve 4o' protects and covers the stick 64 of the gearshift 63 such that the stick 64 can be prevented from cutting off by other tools.
Accordingly, the stick of the gearshift can be suitably protected and can not be easily cut off by other tools.
