Abstract

A removable protective cover for a car comprises a sheet (11) of plastics coated synthetic leather to the periphery of which are attached a number of plastics coated deformable metallic tabs (13). The sheet (11) is removably secured over a part of a vehicle which requires protection, for example during servicing or other work, using the deformable tabs (13). <IMAGE>

Description

A REMOVABLE COVER FOR A VEHICLE This invention relates to a removable cover for covering a part of a vehicle whilst service or repair work is being carried out on the vehicle.
Whilst a vehicle is being repaired or serviced it is often necessary for a mechanic or repair man to lean on or otherwise come into contact with, in such a manner as to potentially to damage, a part of the bodywork of the vehicle.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a removable cover which can be fitted over the bodywork of a vehicle while service or repair work is being carried out on the vehicle and which can be removed when work has been completed easily and conveniently.
According to the present invention therefore there is provided a removable cover for a part of a vehicle comprising a sheet of material having provided at a peripheral edge thereof at least one tab, said tab being deformable so as to engage a part of said part of said vehicle thereby to secure said cover to said vehicle part.
With this arrangement it is possible to provide a cover for a vehicle which can be fitted and removed easily and conveniently.
Preferably said cover comprises a synthetic leather material. Alternatively the cover may comprise any suitable material as desired or as appropriate and this may comprise a material provided with a plastics coating, e.g. polyvinylchloride (PVC).
Preferably said tab is formed from a deformable metallic material, e.g. aluminium, which may be coated with a protective plastics coating, e.g. PVC.
Alternatively the or each tab(s) may comprise any other deformable material as desired or as appropriate.
The invention will now be described further by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings of which: Fig. 1 shows a schematic plan view of one form of removable cover according to the present invention; and Fig. 2 shows a schematic side view of the cover of Fig. 1 with tabs deformed for securing the cover to a part of a vehicle.
Referring now to Fig. 1, there is shown a protective sheet of material 11, e.g. PVC coated fabric which has secured thereto at spaced positions along a periphery 12 thereof, multiple deformable securing tabs 13.
The securing tabs 13 are formed from aluminium coated with a protective coating of a plastics material, e.g. PVC. Of course, it will be appreciated that the tabs 13 can be formed of any deformable material which need not necessarily have a protective coating.
In use, the cover 11 is removably secured over a part of the vehicle which requires protection during servicing or other work on the vehicle by placing the cover over the part of the vehicle to be protected and securing the tabs 13 relative to the bodywork by deforming them, for example into a hook to hook round the bodywork of the vehicle.
It is of course to be understood that the invention is not intended to be restricted to the details of the above embodiment which are described by way of example only.

Claims (9)

1. A removable cover for a part of a vehicle comprising a sheet of material having provided at a peripheral edge thereof at least one tab, said tab being deformable so as to engage a part of said part of said vehicle thereby to secure said cover to said vehicle part.
2. A removable cover according to claim 1 wherein said cover is formed from a synthetic leather material.
3. A removable cover according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the cover is provided with a plastics coating.
4. A removable cover according to claim 3 wherein the plastics coating is of polyvinylchloride (PVC).
5. A removable cover according to any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the or each tab is formed from a deformable metallic material.
6. A removable cover according to claim 5 wherein the or each tab is formed from aluminium.
7. A removable cover according to claim 5 or claim 6 wherein the or each tab is coated with a protective plastics coating.
8. A removable cover according to claim 7 wherein said plastics coating is of polyvinylchloride (PVC).
9. A removable cover substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
