Abstract

A laminated glass or polycarbonate sheet is contained within a surrounding steel channel frame and insulated from the actual steel channel by a bedding compound. The inward face of the steel channel has a number of steel studs welded around all four sides. The steel channel frame is mounted to a frame constructed from steel angle with holes drilled through its face to correspond with stud projections on outer channel frame. A neoprene strip is affixed over the studs to provide a cushioning gasket between the two frame faces and washers and nuts are then fitted to the protruding studs and tightened to secure the two frames together. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: Face Mounted Security/Ballistic Glazed Screen Background: Against an increasingly aggressive criminal culture the need arises to protect valuables such as cash, documents, and staff from attack particularly in such areas as Banks, Building Societies, Post Offices, DHSS Offices and other establishments handling attractive items likely to be targeted on account of their value.
In counteracting against attack this invention claims to cover essential criteria as detailed thus:1. Whilst providing maximum protection it is vital communication between staff and customer is not impaired in any way. Visually this is achieved by virtue of the transparent nature of the laminated glass or polycarbonate glazing of the screen. According to final requirements a pass thru tray may be fitted below the screen to enable cash/documents to be exchanged, similarly audio speakers can be employed to aid conversation if necessary.
2. The degree nf protection to be afforded and to comply with British Standards will vary according to customer requirements. The invention allows for various levels of Ballistic resistance to be accomodated giving benefit of protection at a most cost effective level.
3. ase of installation is covered by the fixing of Carriage Frame to surround opening. Should the invention be installed in a new situation the frame would be affixed to the aperture by conventional side fixing bolts. However, in the event the invention is to replace non-secure existing screen, this can be done with minimal inconvenience to the office converned by custom design of the replacing Ballistic Security Screen to suit existing openings.
4. It is conceivable an abortive attack on the invention may damage the glazed area sufficient to impair its transparency. In such an event it would be extremely simple to remove the damaged glazed screen panel sub-assembly by releasing the nuts that hold the damaged panel sub-assembly to the carriage frame and inserting a replacement glazed panel sub-assembly.
Technical Descrption of Face Mounted Security/Ballistic Glazed Screen Ref: Drawing K.G.9.92.1872.
The Laminated glass or polycarbonate is contained within a steel channel frame insulated from the actual steel channel by a bedding compound.
The inward face of the steel channel has a number of steel studs shot (stud) welded around all four sides.
The Carriage Frame is a welded structure constructed from steel angle with holes drilled through its face to correspond with stud projections on outer channel frame. Not shown but used to fix the Carriage Frame into its surrounding aperture are holes around the outside face of the steel angle.
As shown section AA drawing K.G.9.92.1872 method of assembly illustrates method by which pre-assembled glazed channel frame connects to Carriage Frame, a neoprene strip having first been affixed over the studs to provide a cushioning gasket between the two frame faces. Washers and nuts are then fitted to the protruding studs and tightened to secure the two frames together.
