Abstract

A hinge structure 10 has sockets 11, 12 for receiving elongate members 14, 15. A slider 18 can be releasably clamped on member 14 and socket 12 includes clamp 21 for releasably clamping member 15. A connecting strut 25 is pivoted to slider 18 and clamp 21 for holding members 14, 15 in a selected position of adjustment. In another example the hinge 10 includes a releasable clamp and the slider is on member 15, the strut extending between the slider and socket 11. In one form of use, a fishing rod rest is carried by member 15. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO HINGE STRUCTURES THIS INVENTION relates to hinge structures.
According to this invention, a hinge structure comprises a hinge having first and second hinge parts for receiving respectively first and second elongate members, a clamp for releasably clamping one of the elongate members and when released slidable on the one elongate member; and a connection pivotably connected between the slidable clamp and the hinge part arranged for receiving the other elongate member.
There may be means for releasably clamping the hinge.
The hinge part for receiving the other or the one elongate member may comprise a clamp for releasably rotatably receiving said other elongate member.
The invention may be performed in various ways and two specific embodiments with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hinge structure; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of another hinge structure.
In Fig. 1, a hinge structure 10 comprises sockets 11, 12 hinged together at 13. The sockets 11, 12 are arranged to receive the ends of elongate members 14, 15 respectively. Socket 11 has an octagonal section recess which receives an octagonal section rod 14 which is rotatably adjustably clamped in clamp 17. A rivet 9 may secure rod 14 and socket 11 together. A slider 18 can slide on rod 14 and is clampable on the rod 14 by rotating knob 19 and screw L0 mounted in the slider 18 and engageable with the rod 14.
At the outer end of the socket 12 is a clamp 21 including wings 22 (only one shown).
A nut 23 is captive in one wing 22 and receives a screw extending through to the other wing and connected to a rotatable knob 24 so that operation of the knob 24 can tighten or release the clamp 21 on member 15 received in socket 12. The member 15 is thus rotationally adjustable in the clamp 21.
A strut 25 is pivoted at its ends at 26, 27 to slider 18 and clamp 21 respectively.
To move member 15 relative to rod 14 about hinge 13, the slider 18 is unclamped, the member 15 is pivoted to a desired position, during which movement the slider slides on rod 14, and the slider 18 then re-clamped on rod 14. The slider 18 and strut 25 thus provide a means for locking or holding the members 14, 15 in a desired relative angular position.
In one form of use, a fishing rod rest is carried by member 15 and a user can alter the position of the rest by rotatably adjusting member 15 in clamp 21 and/or rotatably adjusting rod 14 in clamp 17 and/or adjusting member 15 about hinge 13. A user may conveniently be seated near clamp 17.
In Fig. 2, the hinge structure is somewhat different from Fig. 1 in that the strut 25 is pivoted to socket 11; the hinge 13 includes a releasable clamp 30 for releasably clamping the hinge 13; and the slider 18 includes wings 22 and is on member 15.

Claims (6)
