Abstract

The device consists of a number of drums 4 mounted rotatably on an axle 5, the drums bearing on their rims the letters of the alphabet. The device may be enclosed in a suitable tube 1 and optionally provided with a slide 2 to blank off unwanted letter positions. <IMAGE>

Description

CROSSWORD ALPHABET THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A CROSSWORD ALPHABET.
IT PROVIDES THE MEANS WHEREBY PEOPLE DOING CROSSWORD PUZZLES CAN PLAY WITH A SERIES OF CIRCULAR ALPHABETS THUS ENABLING THEM TO FORM AND RE-FORM LINEAR WORDS.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE ARE A SERIES OF ALPHABET PLUS ONE BLANK EMBOSSED WHEELS/DRUMS WHICH ROTATE ON AN AXLE. THIS CYLINDER SO FORMED IS PLACED INSIDE A TUBE. THIS TUBE HAS A SLOT CUT TO ENABLE THE WORD TO BE WORKED VISIBLE.
A LARGE CUT-OUT OF THE SIDE PIECE OF THE TUBE ENABLES THE WHEELS/DRUMS TO BE ROTATED BY HAND. A SMALL SLIDE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TUBE BLOCKS OFF THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF LETTERS.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH: FIGURE 1 ILLUSTRATES THE SEPARATE PIECES.
FIGURE 2 SHOWS THE DEVICE ASSEMBLED.
REFERRING TO THE DRAWING THE CROSSWORD ALPHABET COMPRISES A SERIES OF ALPHABET PLUS ONE BLANK EMBOSSED WHEELS/DRUMS 4 ROTATING ON AN AXLE 5 THUS FORMING A CYLINDER.
THIS CYLINDER SO FORMED IS INSERTED INTO A TUBE 1.
THIS TUBE HAS A SLOT 6 CUT TO ENABLE THE WORD IN IT TO BE VIEWED AND WORKED ON.
THIS TUBE HAS A LARGE CUT-OUT 7 ON ITS SIDE TO ENABLE THE CYLINDER WHEELS/DRUMS TO BE ROTATED BY HAND THUS CHANGING THE LETTERS IN THE SLOT 6.
THE SMALL SLIDE 2 ENABLES THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF LETTERS TO BE BLANKED OFF IN THE SLOT 6.

Claims (6)

1. A SERIES OF ALPHABET PLUS ONE BLANK EMBOSSED WHEELS/DRUMS TO FORM A CROSSWORD ALPHABET.
2. A CROSSWORD ALPHABET AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1 BEING ROTATED ON AN AXLE TO FORM A CYLINDER.
3. A CROSSWORD ALPHABET AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1 OR CLAIM 2, WHEREIN THE CYLINDER SO FORMED IS PLACED INSIDE A TUBE.
4. A CROSSWORD ALPHABET AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 2 OR CLAIM 3, WHEREIN A SLOT IS CUT IN THE TUBE SO THAT THE SOUGHT AFTER WORD CAN BE VIEWED AND WORKED UPON.
5. A CROSSWORD ALPHABET AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 3 OR CLAIM 4, WHEREIN A LARGE SIDE PIECE OF THE TUBE IS REMOVED THEREBY ENABLING THE ALPHABET WHEELS/DRUMS TO BE ROTATED BY HAND.
6. A CROSSWORD ALPHABET AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 4 OR CLAIM 5, WHEREIN A SMALL GUIDE SLIDES ALONG THE OUTER SURFACE OF THE TUBE TO ENABLE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF LETTERS VISIBLE IN THE SLOTS TO BE BLANKED OFF.
