Abstract

A trailer comprising an electrical system has a connection for connecting the trailer electrical system to the electrical system of a towing vehicle. The connection is secured in place in a drained recess (11) in the trailer. <IMAGE>

Description

TRAILER This invention relates to a trailer.
Most trailers have electrically operated signal lights at their rear. The cables for the lights terminate in an electrical plug or socket which is found at the front of the trailer for connection to the electrical system of the towing vehicle. The electrical coupling is not secured in position and the electrical plug may be structurally damaged or damaged by water.
The present invention has been made from a consideration of this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a trailer comprising an electrical system, wherein the connection for connecting said electrical system to the electrical system of the towing vehicle is secured to the trailer.
This prevents structural damage occurring.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the connection is secured in a recess in the trailer body. The connection is preferably arranged vertically. The electrical connection is preferably provided in a drained recess.
In order that the present invention may be more readily understood a specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the front of a trailer in accordance with the invention; Fig.2 is a plan view of the trailer of Fig.l; and Fig.3 is a section along the line AA of Fig.2.
Referring to the drawings a trailer 10, only part of which is shown, comprises a frame like structure. A cylindrical recess 11 is provided in one of the members of the frame, a drain hole 12 being provided at the base thereof. The recess is operative to receive an electrical connector such as a plug or socket with a snug fit. The cables for the plug or socket are provided on the wall of the recess about one third of the distance from the base to the top of the recess. Any water which may get into the recess will not reach a level at which it will flow over the electrical contacts with the cables as the drain hole -prevents large amounts of water accumulating in the recess.
By providing the plug or socket in a recess it is less likely to be damaged structurally.
It is to be understood that the above described embodiment is by way of illustration only. Many modifications and variations are possible.

Claims (6)
