Abstract
A 'Cylinder Leak Indicator Cap' 1 is a moulded rubber cap with a thinner integral end called a membrane 2. The 'Cylinder Leak Indicator Cap' is passed over the vent outlet of any pressurized cylinder and locked in position by a plastic clip 3. If there is a leak of the contents, the membrane 2 will blow up like a small balloon, (Fig. 3). If the leak continues the membrane will burst, thus indicating a major leak. <IMAGE>
Description
CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO THE 'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP'
OR (CLIC) FOR SHORT. IT IS DESIGNED TO IDENTIFY THE
PROBLEM OF LEAKS FROM PRESSURIZED CYLINDERS. THE TYPE
USED TO CONTAIN C02 GAS AND ALL MANNER OF OTHER
DANGEROUS AND NON-DANGEROUS CONTENTS, WHICH ARE
TRANSPORTED AND STORED IN THIS WAY, READY FOR USE,
THE OTHER RELEVANT PROBLEM IS SHORTAGES IN THE CYLINDER
WHEN PURCHASED. MY OWN EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN WITH C02 GAS
CYLINDERS.
AFTER PURCHASE HOW DO YOU PROVE TO THE SUPPLIER IT WAS
SHORT, OR EVEN EMPTY ON DELIVERY. THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS
YOU CANT.
UNTIL NOW.
WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE 'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP'
IT WILL GIVE 100% ASSURITY THAT YOU WILL HAVE A FULL
CYLINDER ON DELIVERY - OR DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ('CLIC')
HAS BLOW UP, OR IN A MAJOR LEAK SITUATION BURST- YOU
ARE ABLE TO REJECT OR ACCEPT DELIVERY JUST AT A GLANCE.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A 'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP' OR (CLIC) WHICH IS MADE OF
RUBBER. THE RUBBER IS MOULDED INTO A CAP, WHICH FITS OVER
THE VALVE OUTLET AND TIGHT AROUND THE VALVE NECK OF THE
CYLINDER. THE CAP IS MADE AIR TIGHT BY FIXING IN POSITION
WITH A PLASTIC CLIP. THE CAP IS MOULDED WITH AN INDICATOR
MEMBRANE, WHICH FORMS THE FLAT FRONT OF THE CAP. THIS
MEMBRANE WILL EXPAND LIKE A SMALL BALLOON, UP TO THE SIZE
OF A TENNIS BALL, THUS INDICATING A LEAK. IF THE LEAK
CONTINUES THE BALLOON WILL BURST - TITUS INDICATING A MAJOR
LEAK. THE 'CLIC' HAS DONE ITS JOB.
IN THIS SIMPLE WAYnikCYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP' CAN ACHIEVE
THE FOLLOWING 1. IF THE 'CLIC' IS NOT BROKEN A FULL CYLINDER IS INDICATED.
2. IF THE 'CLIC' IS SLIGHTLY EXPANDED, THE INDICATION
IS A SMALL,VERY SLOW LEAK. ACTION CAN BE TAKEN BEFORE
A MAJOR LEAK OCCURS.
3. IF THE 'CLIC' HAS BURST, A MAJOR LEAK IS INDICATED.
CYLINDER CAN BE REMOVED FROM DELIVERY TRUCK AND REPLACED,
OR THE CUSTOMER CAN REFUSE ACCEPTANCE.
4. VERY IMPORTANT WITH DANGEROUS CONTENTS. AN INSTANT VISUAL
CHECK.
5. AUDIBAL WARNING.
6. THE 'CLIC' WILL KEEP EXIT VENT CLEAN AND FREE FROM
CONTAMINATION.
7. TO USE THE CYLINDER JUST TURN ON TO BURST THE 'CLIC'
THE THREAD WILL BE EXPOSED.
THE SPECIFIC EMBODYMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED
BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH FIG. 1. SHOWS A SIDE VIEW ON THE CIL WITH THE 'CYLINDER LEAK
INDICATOR CAP' IN POSITION ON THE CYLINDER VALVE OUTLET.
FIG.2. SECTION ON CIL SHOWING DETAILED VIEW OF 'CYLINDER LEAK
INDICATOR CAP' HELD IN POSITION WITH THE PLASTIC CLIP.
FIG. 3. SHOWING THE BALLOON FORMING WHEN THE INDICATOR MEMBRANE
EXPANDS DUE TO A LEAK.
THE'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP' 1. WILL BE MADE OF
RUBBER. THE RUBBER IS MOULDED INTO A CAP, WHICH FITS OVER THE
VALVE OUTLET THREAD. 4. AND TIGHT-AROUND THE VALVE OUTLET
NECK 5. OF THE PRESSURIZED CYLINDER, SUCH AS USED FOR C02
GAS. AS SHOWN IN FIG. 2. THE CAP KNOWN AS 'CLIC' FOR SHORT,
IS RETAINED IN POSITION WITH A PLASTIC CLIP 3. THUS CREATING
A SEAL AT THIS POINT. THE THIN INDICATOR MEMBRANE 2 IS
MOULDED TO FORM THE FRONT OF THE 'CLIC'. THIS IS THE
WEAK POINT.IF THE PRESSURISED CONTENTS ARE NOW RELEASED, THE
INDICATOR MEMBRANE 2 WILL EXPAND, JUST LIKE BLOWING UP A
BALLOON. AS SHOWN IN FIG. 3. THE MEMBRANE IS DESIGNED
TO BLOW UP THE SIZE OF A TENNIS BALL, AT THIS POINT IT WILL
BURST. JUST A VISUAL INSPECTION WILL INDICATE ANY LOSS OF
CONTENTS.
Claims (7)
1. THE 'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP' (CLIC) IS A MOULDED RUBBER
CAP WHICH COVERS THE VALVE OUTLETS OF ANY PRESSURIZED
CYLINDER OF THE TYPE USED FOR C02 GAS. THE 'CLIC' IS
DESIGNED SO THAT IF THERE IS A LEAK A THIN MEMBRANE MOULDED
INTO THE FRONT WILL EXPAND, JUST LIKE A SMALL BALLOON. IF
THE LEAK CONTINUES IT WILL BURST WHEN AT TENNIS BALL SIZE
INDICATING A MAJOR LEAK.
2. A 'CYLINDER LEAK INDICATOR CAP' (CLIC). AS DESCRIBED HERIN
WITH REFERENCE TO FIG. 1 2 AND 3 OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A "CLIC" IS A FORM OF CAP WHICH COVERS THE OUTLET VENT OF ANY
PRESSURISED CYLINDER. THE "CLIC" WILL IDENTIFY A LEAK BY A BUILT IN
EARLY WARNING VISUAL EXPANSION OF AN INDICATOR MEMBRANE. IF THE INDICATOR
MEMBRANE BURSTS WHICH IT IS DESIGNED TO DO THIS WILL ALSO INDICATE
A LEAK.
2. A "CLIC" AS CLAIMED, IN CLAIM 1, WHERE IN AN INDICATOR MEMBRANE IS
PROVIDED WHICH WILL EXPAND UNDER PRESSURE FROM A LEAK.
3. A "CLIC" AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1-2 WHERE IN THE EXPANSION OF THE INDICATOR
