Abstract
A domestic sprinkler system comprises small bore pipes and is operable using water from the mains supply (D). The system is provided with a valve (F) which is operated by an electrically controlled flow switch (G) situated on the sprinkler supply. This valve (F) serves to close the domestic supply allowing fuel demand to the sprinkler system. Spring loaded pressure valves (H) are also provided as a secondary means for ensuring domestic water shutdown. <IMAGE>
Description
DOMESTIC FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM
This invention relates to a domestic sprinkler system.
Commercial sprinkler systems are usually made from large bore mild steel pipes and operated by way of a seperate fire fighting mains water supply or by large storage tanks, making installation both expensive and aesthetically unaccepteable for private dwellings.
This invention would provide a sprinkler system whereby the piping would be concealed in the loft (A) (frost protected by BS lagging) for the upper floor and between the floor and the ceiling space (B) for the ground floor sprinkler heads (C).
The pipe from the mains (D) would be boxed if necessary and would be run in 15mm copper or steel reducing to lOmm on each sprinkler leg using a maB-lfold (J), thus making the installation unobtrusive.
The sprinkler heads would be positioned in each room, the amount of heads would be governed by the size of the room. Additional heads (C1) could be installed in the loft space if required.
Each sprinkler head would be activated once the intensity of the fire reached a minimum of 'C 'C and would only be activated in any of the rooms where there was sufficient heat to do so.
A safeguard would be installed against any reduction in sprinkler head pressure due to the mains water supply being used for domestic purposes at the sane time. A back up 12V electrical system would be used for this and for an alarm (E) which would be mounted on the exterior of the property in a prominent position which would be both visual and audible.
The system complies with the relevant water bye-laws by using a double check valve (K) immediately after the main stop cock (L). The system also incorporates a servicing valve (X), This invention would be relatively inexpensive compared to exsiting designs and be more aesthetically acceptable. it would provide additional fire safety and fill a gap in the domestic market. It would minimise the damage to personal property which would be beneficial both to the owner and to Insurance Companies,
Claims (3)
- CLAIMS 1 A domestic sprinkler system comprising of small bore pipes and being able to operate using the existing mains cud).
- 2 A domestic sprinkler system as claimed in Claim 1 using a priority demand valve (F) operated by an electrically controlled flow switch (G) situated on the sprinkler supply which would close the domestic supply allowing full demand to the sprinkler system and served by a 12V back up power supply.
- 3 A domestic sprinkler system as claimed in Claim 1 using callibrated spring loaded pressure valves (H) as a secondary means of insuring domestic water shut down.
