Abstract

Persons who breathe heavily through their mouths tend to snore loudly during sleep, causing sore throats, bad breath, plaque and interrupted nights and embarrassment. The invention intends to overcome these problems and relates to a plastic nose expander clip comprises end flaps joined by an interconnecting piece which includes two centre pins. The clip gently holds the two sides of the nostrils apart and in conjunction with the two centre pins the expander is held securely in place throughout the whole night and will not fall out, thus allowing up to 50% more air to flow through the nostrils and not through the mouth. <IMAGE>

Description

NOSE EXPANDER CLIP This invention relates to a plastic nose expander clip.
Tests have proved that a heavy intake of breath through the mouth during sleep, vibrates the oriface to the throat and palate causing snoring.
By expanding the inner walls of the nostril up to 50% more air is encouraged to flow through the nose, which in turn decreases or stops the air intake through the mouth. In most cases this eliminates snoring completely.
This "Nose Expander" will be manufactured from medicaly approved plastic (Evode 970 + White 0005). The formula is very important as is the thickness of the main connecting bar.
Both of the above items dictate the tension of the end flaps, which if not correct, the nose clip will either fall out during the night or cause discomfort.
Also very important to the success of this invention is the two holding centre pins. Without these the "Expander" would become loose and fail to function properly, as well as possibly falling out, even with the correct tension of the main connecting bar.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 Shows the nose expander top view. The measurement from the outside edge of the 2 flaps is 70mm. The 2 flaps are 25mm high. (N.E.1.) FIGURE 2 Shows the nose expander back view showing the supporting centre pins in the ready position. The length of the pins are 10mm. (N.E.2) FIGURE 3 Show the position of these pins about to be inserted into the the nostril. It also shows how the expander, clips on to the base of the nose. (N.E.3) FIGURE 4 Shows how the expander is inserted in & up the nose and by the virtue of having the tension of the main connecting bar creating an outward thrust, plus the supporting pins holding the centre of the nostril in position, ventilation and complete security are achieved when the nose expander clip is insert.
(N.E.4)

Claims (9)

CLAIMS By increasing the airflow through the noatrils, both a reduction of snering and a better intake af filtered eir is received by the lunes The latter condition improves the quality of aleep and in the esse of esthme suffere who suffer from attsche caused hy "Bed mites" and dust, a grest deal of relief if given to the aufferer. If the Nose expander clip is wern during strenuous axercises such as jegging@ycling and simular sports a great deel of benifit ten be derived hy encouraging filtered air through the nostrils and not the mouth to the lungs, Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows I, PETER WINSLOW OF THE ABOVE ADDRESS AM) A BRITISH SUBJECT MAKE THE FOLLOWING CLAIMS.
1. This device is to increase the airflow through the nose by way of a moulded plastic "Nose Expander Clip" which is formulated to fit into the nostrils.
The device comprises of a main connecting bar which is joined to 2 end flaps. The device also has 2 central gripper pins (clips) and fits on the outside of the end flaps. All of which I claim to hold the device firmly in position during use.
The device has a positioning grove in the main connecting bar as well as finger grips to ease fitting.
Appended to claim 1 are the following claims 2 to 10.
2. It is claimed that the device is washable, rust proof and oblivious to heat or cold. Being made from medically approved plastic (Evode 970 + w0005). It is completely safe to use.
3. It is claimed that the outside flaps which have gripper fins on the outer edge, are designed to grip the outer sides of the interior of the nostrils. The centre support dips (pins) when inserted clamp on to the centre part of the nostril, making it possible for the user to wear this device to increase airflow through the nose during exercise periods or during the whole night without the danger of falling out
4. It is also claimed in addition to claim S that the thin connecting bar when fitted firmly presses the end flaps outwards inside the nose, thus gripping the whole device firmly in place.
5. It is claimed that the central grove allows the device to be fitted in the dark and the finger grips located on the main connecting bar are to help the user gripping the device for fitting.
6. It is claimed that when the central support clips (pins) are in the about to be fitted" position, the clips face the orifice of the nostril. But when the device is inserted the main connecting bar is forced into a horseshoe shape, this in turn changes the position of the clips which now are bent inwards and grip the centre of the nose, clamping the whole device firmly in position.
7. It is claimed that this device when worn will increase the airflow through the nostrils by 50/aand will decrease the airflow though the mouth by the same amount.
8. It is claimed that this reduced airflow through the mouth will stop or gready reduce the action known as snoring. The increased airflow through the nostrils will allow the natural filter systems of the body to filter the air before it reaches the lungs.
9. Finally it is claimed that by filtering the airflow before it reaches the lungs (claim 8.) a much longer and stress free period of sleep can be gained. Itwill also help in the control of plaque in the teeth.
It will have a calming effect on the nervous system and will give a general benefit to health.
It is claimed any or each feature of this device and claims described herein whether taken alone or in combination from claims 1 to 9 inclusive.
