Abstract
A fluid passageway (A) has in its axis an obstruction (1) having several ports, one or more (2) of which provide direct passage of fluid through the obstruction whilst one or more other (3) ports are set such that when brought into axial alignment with the passageway they are closed by a spring loaded sealing device (4). When the ports providing direct passage of fluid (2) are in axial alignment fluid flow and pressure is free to be transmitted in either direction; when the other ports (3) are aligned axially with the fluid passageway, the spring loaded valve (4) permits transmission of fluid flow/pressure in one direction only and release of the pressure is prevented. In this way, when the arrangement is applied to vehicle hydraulic or pneumatic systems, brakes can be applied but not released, or clutches or automatic transmissions may be disengaged but not re-engaged whenever the ports aligned with the spring loaded valve are selected in alignment with the axis of the passageway. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
This invention concerns a control arrangement for a fluid pipeline, particularly but not exclusively for an hydraulic pipeline for controlled locking or jamming of an hydraulic braking system, eg. of a vehicle or other hydraulically operated equipment.
For the avoidance of any doubt, the term 'fluid" as used herein refers to any liquid gas or mixture of liquids or gasses (eg. air).
Numerous anti-theft devices for vehicles have been proposed, primarily concerning actuation of alarm signals or prevention of ignition. Others which operate on the braking system have also been proposed.
It is an object of this invention to provide a control arrangement for an hydraulic or pneumatic pipeline in a vehicle or other machinery, which arrangement wiil be operable only by an authorised user to selectively block or open the said pipeline and thus prevent or permit operation of the vehicle or machinery respectively. The arrangement will thus have both automatic safety and anti-theft features.
With the aforesaid object in view, the present invention presents an hydraulic or pneumatic pipeline control arrangement comprising a single passageway provided with a device having two selectable series of ports, one series of which permit free fluid flow in either direction whilst the second series of ports are provided with a one-way valve arrangement which permits fluid flow in one direction only such that application of fluid pressure via the second series of ports is possible but release of hydraulic or pneumatic pressure is prevented.
Thus the invention comprises a multi-ported selector valve and annular flow one-way valve arrangement.

Claims (1)
- An hydraulic or pneumatic pipeline control arrangement comprising a single fluid passageway interrupted by an valve having a number of ports arranged to permit either free fluid flow along the passageway or to bring the fluid against a spring loaded arrangement which permits flow in one direction only such that in this position pressure can be transmitted through the invention but its release can only be occasioned by selecting the free flow port arrangement. An arrangement as claimed in claim 1 wherein the rotation of the valve is occasioned by way of a lock which is designed to turn through 90 degrees. An arrangement as claimed in claim 1 wherein the valve operates a micro-switch or other electrical device which provides selection cf an indicator system. An arrangement as claimed in claim 1 wherein the valve operates a micro-switch or other electrical device which provides selection or de-selection of an associated electrical control system. (Such as an ignition isolator) An arrangement as claimed in claim 2 wherein the valve operates a micro-switch or other electrical device which provides selection or de-selection of an associated electrical control system. (Such as an ignition isolator) An arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim whereby the passageway and valve arrangement are contained in a tamper-proof unit.A vehicle having a braking system controlled by an arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim.A vehicle having a clutch system controlled by an arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim.A vehicle having an automatic or semi-automatic transmission system controlled by an arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim.A vehicle having any hydraulic or pneumatic control system controlled by an arrangement as claimed in any preceding claim. An arrangement which is straightforward to manufacture in quantity and which follows automotive engineering practice in its design.NOTE Copyright is claimed for the design submitted as an example of the arrangement.
