Abstract

A binder for holding loose leaves together has two side panels 12, 12' hinged to an intermediate panel 13 at two opposite sides by living hinges 11, 11'; the side panels 12, 12' have male and female fastening elements 14, 15 respectively and releasably connected together to hold down loose leaves; the intermediate panel 13 has two slide hooks 17, 17' extensibly inserted in two opposite outward channels 16, 16' thereof for hanging on a file drawer. The hooks include a slot 171, 171' engaging a stop 161, 161' to limit their outward movement. <IMAGE>

Description

CLIP FOR HOLDING LOOSE LEAVES The present invention relates to clips and relates more particularly to a clip which has male fastening elements and female fastening elements respectively connected to hold loose leaves together, and slide hooks for hanging on a file drawer.
Various fastening devices are known and widely used for holding loose leaves together. Among these fastening devices, there is one made in the form of a folder with two opposed rows of teeth hinged on the inside at the middle for holding loose leaves together by inserting the teeth on either row through the binding holes on the loose leaves and then closing up the two rows of teeth. This structure of fastening device occupies much storage space and is expensive to manufacture. A coil may also be used for fastening loose leaves together. However, it is inconvenient to fasten loose leaves by a coil. It is also difficult to take out or replace loose leaves if they are held together by a coil. There is also a triangular rod having a channel on one side through its length and being used with a folding sheet for holding loose leaves together.Loose leaves may drop from the folding sheet easily. while fastening the triangular rod to the folding sheet in holding loose leaves together.
Furthermore, the folders or files which are used to keep papers in order may have hooks or hangers for hanging on a file drawer. These hooks or hangers are commonly not adjustable. Therefore, different file drawers may be used with different folders or files.
According to one aspect of the present invention, the clip is comprised of two side panels bilaterally connected to an intermediate panel by a respective spring hinge, wherein the side panels have male and female fastening elements respectively and releasably connected together to hold down loose leaves.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the intermediate panel has two slide hooks extensibly retained in two opposite outward channels thereof by projecting rods for hanging on a file drawer.
An embodiment of the present invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a clip according to the present invention, being used in holding loose leaves together; Fig. 2 is a perspective exploded view of the clip; Fig. 3 is a sectional assembly view of the clip (when closed); Fig. 4 is another sectional view of the clip (when opened); Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing a slide hook extended out of either channel on the intermediate panel of the body of the clip; Fig. 6 illustrates the clip hung on a file drawer by the slide hooks thereof.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the body 1 is comprised of an elongated intermediate panel 13, and two elongated side panels 12,12' bilaterally connected to the intermediate panel 13 by a respective narrow spring hinge 11 or 11' in longitudinal direction. The spring hinge 11 or 11' may be made by making a groove on the connecting area between the intermediate panel 13 and either side panel 12 or 12'. Because of the arrangement of the spring hinge 11 or 11', either side panel 12 or 12' can be turned from a horizontal position to a vertical position relative to the intermediate panel 13. Male fastening elements 14 and female fastening elements 15 may be respectively made on the side panels 12,12' so that the side panels 12,12' can be releasably connected together in holding loose leaves together by fastening the male fastening elements 14 to the female fastening elements 15 respectively. In the present preferred embodiment, each male fastening element has a resilient head releasably fitted into a hole on the respective female fastening element (see Figs. 3 and 4). The intermediate panel 13 has two outward channels 16,16' on two opposite ends thereof, into which two slide hooks 17,17' are respectively inserted. Each channel 16 or 16' has a projecting stop rod 161 or 161' raised on the inside and inserted through an elongated slot 171 or 171' on either slide hook 17 or 17'. Therefore, the slide hook 17 or 17' is movably retained in either channel 16 or 16' and can be moved in and out of the respective channel 16 or 16' (See Fig. 5). The male and female elements may be in equally-spaced series on the panels.
Referring to Fig. 4, loose leaves 2 are put on one side panel 12' of the body 1 for permitting the female fastening elements 15 to insert through the bindiny holes (not shown) thereon, then the other side panel 12 is turned toward the loose leaves 2 for permitting the male fastening elements 14 to be respectively fastened to the female fastening elements 15 in holding the loose leaves 2 together (see Fig. 1).
The female fastening elements 15 can be easily disconnected from the male fastening elements 14 by lifting one side panel 12' from the other 12, for permitting the loose leaves 2 to be taken out or replaced.
Referring to Fig. 6, because the slide hooks 17,17' can be moved in and out of the channels 16,16' respectively, they can be properly adjusted according to the size of the file drawer 3 on which the clip is to be hung.
