Abstract
A stand is disclosed for the support, storage and display of jewellery especially earrings. The stand has an apertured member which allows the retention of earrings for pierced ears by allowing access to both sides of the member. Clip-on earrings can also be retained as their clasps can engage the edges of the member. The apertures may take the form of slots or holes e.g. slots 14, 15. The stand may have more than one apertured member and may also support other items of jewellery. <IMAGE>
Description
SUPPORT, STORAGE AND DISPLAY MEANS
FOR ARTICLES OF JEWELLERY
This invention concerns support, storage and display means for articles of jewellery.
So-called ring trees comprising small branched artefacts of glass or ceramics for the support and display of finger rings are known.
Whilst larger items of jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces are conveniently stored in a drawer or jewel box, the same cannot be said of earrings, which unless stored as pairs in individual boxes readily become misplaced, separated, entangled and difficult to locate.
It is an object of the present invention, therefore to provide means for the support, storage and display of earrings, and giving ease of access thereto.
One difficulty is the ability to accomodate the different kinds of earring be they studded or hooked for use with pierced ears or provided with clasps to grip the ear lobe.
According to the present invention there is provided a support, storage and display means for articles of jewellery comprising at least one member supported so that access may be had to each of opposite faces thereof apertures through the member to receive the hooks and studs of hooked and studded earrings and the member being of such thickness that the clasps of clip-on earrings can be engaged with its edges.
The member may be of plate-like form.
The member may be circular.
The member may present finger-like extensions.
The member may have apertures close to its edge.
The member may have apertures spaced from its edge and in the form of extended slots.
The member may have apertures spaced from its edge and of cruciform shape.
The apertures may comprise slots of spiral shape extending from and through the peripheral edge of a circular plate member.
The member may be rotatably mounted.
The support may include studs for engagement with selected ones of said apertures to provide hook means for support of or stops for retention of other articles of jewellery.
The invention will be further apparent from the following description with reference to the several figures of the accompanying drawings, which show, by way of example only, two forms of support, storage and display means embodying same.
Of the drawings :
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a first
means;
Figure 2 shows a cross-section on the line
II-II of Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a cross-section on the line
III-III of Figure 1;
Figure 4 shows an alternative design of
support plate; and
Figure 5 shows a perspective view of a second
means.
Referring firstly to Figures 1-3, it will be seen that the support, storage and display means comprises a base 10 which mounts a vertical rod 11 which carries spaced plate-like members 12 and 13, each extending in a horizontal plane.
The plate-like member 12 is rotatably mounted, circular (see Fig. 2) and is provided with apertures in the form of arcuate slots 14 adjacent to its peripheral edge and radial slots 15.
The studs and hooks of studded and hooked earrings may be engaged with the slots 14 and 15 and clip-on earrings may be clamped to the edge of the member 12.
One or more removable studs 16 may be engaged at desired locations with the slots 14 to form hooks for the support of such as bracelets or necklaces.
The plate-like member 13 presents fingers 17 each having an aperture 18 adjacent its tip. Earrings may be engaged with the apertures 18 or removable studs 19 to act as stops to retain finger rings, bracelets and necklaces positioned on or draped over the fingers 17.
An additional plate-like member 18 of circular shape and having sprial slots 19 extending from and through its outer edge as shown in Figure 4 may be provided or substituted for one or other of the members 12 and 13.
Turning now to Figure 5, it will be seen that the second form of support and display means comprises a plate-like member 40 integral with a further plate 41 at an angle thereto and serving as a stand to hold the member 40 in an inclined plane.
The member 40 is provided with a plurality of apertures 42 of cruciform shape arranged on a square lattice.
Earrings may be engaged with the apertures 42 (it being understood that the length of at least one bar of the cruciform slot is sufficient to receive the hook of a hooked earring) and edges of the member 40 as previously described.
Removable studs 43 may be fitted to selected ones of the apertures 42 to form hooks for support of finger rings, bracelets or necklaces.
Whilst the support and display means described may be formed from any suitable materials, a clear
Perspex (Registered Trade Mark) is a preferred choice for the plate like members.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof.
Thus the support, storage and display means may take many different physical forms such as one comprising two three or four plates forming adjacent faces of a pyramid, for example. In the case of four plates the base of the pyramid is necessarily void to give access to its interior for fastening the keepers of studded earrings.
Yet again, for example, the apertured member may be in the form of a cylindrical tube.
