Description

PACKAGING FOR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS The present invention relates to packaging for electrical components.
EP-PS 0 051 168 describes packaging for electrical components comprising, in essence a base body which has cups to receive the components and a cover which closes the base body on the open side of the cups.
According to the afore-mentioned EP-PS 0 051 168, the cover is formed by means of an adhesive foil, in particular a paper strip, which is coated with an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer is applied to the adhesive foil only in selected areas, so that when the adhesive foil is applied to the base body it adheres to areas of the base body other than the receiving cups for the components.
It is true that such packaging strictly speaking comprises two individual parts; namely the base body and the adhesive foil which can be disposed of separately after use of the packing. The adhesive layer on the cover, however, leaves behind residues of adhesive on the packaging base bodies and possibly fragments of the cover. These foreign substances form, with the packaging base body, a composite which is difficult or even impossible to recycle for re-use.
According to the present invention there is provided packaging for electrical components, the packaging having a base body which has cups to receive the components and having a cover which is slidable over the base body to close the base body on the open side of the cups, the cover having channel-shaped edge regions which slidably receive edge regions of the base body, the base body having rebates on the side opposite the open side of the cups, for receiving portions of the channel-shaped edge regions of the cover.
Preferably the base body has ribs which extend between the cups in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the packaging and which are used as clamping and/or reinforcement elements.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how it may be brought into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a section through some packaging; and Figure 2 shows a top view of the packaging of Figure 1.
Figures 1 and 2 show packaging comprising a base body 1 which has cups 2 to receive the components and also a cover 3 which closes this base body 1 on the open side of the cups 2. The cover 3 has a channelshaped or C-shaped cross section. The base body 1 is shaped to cooperate with the channel-shaped cross section of the cover 3 and has rebates or undercuts 4 into which the cover 3 engages when it is slid onto the base body 1.
In a further development of the invention, the base body 1 has ribs 5 which project from the base body on the side of the base body at which the cups 2 open, and extend between the cups 2 in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the packaging. The ribs 5 are used as clamping and reinforcement elements.
Grip free areas 6 remain in the region of the base body 1 between the cups 2 and the outer edges of the base body 1 which extend in the longitudinal direction.
In a further development of the invention, the cover 3 can, for example, be produced from plastics material and more particularly thermoplastics material.
Since the base body 1 and cover 3 are interconnected solely by interlocking, the base body 1 and cover 3 can be completely separated from each other after use and can be separately recycled for re-use.
The packaging is also suitable for simple re-filling.

Claims (6)

1. Packaging for electrical components, the packaging having a base body which has cups to receive the components and having a cover which is slidable over the base body to close the base body on the open side of the cups, the cover having channel-shaped edge regions which slidably receive edge regions of the base body, the base body having rebates on the side opposite the open side of the cups, for receiving portions of the channel-shaped edge regions of the cover.
2. Packaging as claimed in claim 1, in which the base body has ribs which extend between the cups in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the packaging.
3. Packaging as claimed in claim 2, in which the sliding direction of the cover with respect to the base body corresponds to the longitudinal direction of the packaging.
4. Packaging as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the cover is produced from thermoplastics material.
5. Packaging for electrical components substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
6. An electrical component packaged in packaging as claimed in any one of the preceding claims.
