Description
INTEGRATED BURGLAR-PROOF ALARM SYSTEM
The present invention relates to a burglarproof alarm system, particularly an integrated alarm system.
Among crimes today, theft is one of the most common. Therefore, there has been a great interest in burglar-alarm systems, such as home alarm systems, car alarm systems, bank alarm systems, and the like.
However, in the conventional burglar-proof alarm system, as shown in Fig. 1, auxiliary units 14,15 are connected to a master unit 10 in parallel, and each auxiliary unit 14,15 is connected to the master unit by a separate communication cable. Functioning of the auxiliary units 14,15 is set up by a keypad 13 incorporated in the master unit 10. The alarm function can be disarmed by a remote controller 20 with a keypad 21, but the remote controller 20 cannot set up functions of the auxiliary units 14, 15. Moreover, the wiring of the conventional alarm system is very complicated and represents a considerable cost if the alarm system is of a large scale. Moreover, replacement of auxiliary units 1t,15 is difficult, and malfunction of the master unit 10 would cause the entire system to malfunction because all the functions are controlled by the master unit.
Furthermore, wires, terminals and cables are used for the wiring of the conventional burglar-alarm system, and hence the wiring is not easy and there is a high possibility of the wrong connection of wires.
In view of the above drawbacks, the inventor has created an integrated burglar-proof alarm system which connects the auxiliary units to the master unit in series with communication ports, so that after removal of any malfunctioning auxiliary unit, all the remaining auxiliary units can be connected in series again easily. Moreover, the use of communication ports makes wiring easy and prevents wrong connections. The integrated burglar-proof alarm system according to the present invention also includes a remote controller which can be used to set up functions of the auxiliary units as well.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an integrated burglar-proof alarm system with a master unit and a plurality of auxiliary units connected in series to simplifying the wiring and to ease replacement of auxiliary units.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an integrated burglar-proof alarm system having a remote controller to set up functions of the auxiliary units besides the master unit.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an integrated burglar-proof alarm system which is installed by the connection of communication ports to ease connection between the master unit and the auxiliary units and to prevent wrong wiring.
In accordance with the invention there is provided an integrated burglar-proof alarm system comprising:
- a master unit with a keypad to set up functions of auxiliary units;
- a plurality of auxiliary units for connection to the master unit in series by means of communication cables and communication ports; and
- a remote controller with a keypad to set up functions of the auxiliary units.
These and other objects and features of the invention will become more apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 illustrates the configuration of a conventional burglar-proof alarm system;
Fig. 2 illustrates the configuration of an integrated burglar-proof alarm system according to the present invention; and,
Fig. 3 is a front view of an auxiliary unit with LED indicators according to the present invention.
Referring to Fig. 2, this shows an integrated burglar-proof alarm system according to the present invention which comprises a master unit 30, a first auxiliary unit 34, a second auxiliary unit 35, a communication cable 32, another communication cable 33 and a remote controller 40.
The master unit 30 is connected to the first auxiliary unit 34 by the communication cable 32, and the first auxiliary unit 34 is connected to the second auxiliary unit 35 by communication cable 33. Such a circuit connects these units in series. Communication ports are used for connection between the communication cables 32,33 and the auxiliary units 34,35 to ensure easy and correct connection. A break in or disconnection of any cable in the circuit can initiate the alarm system according to the present invention.
The functions of the auxiliary units 34,35 can be set up by a keypad 31 on the master unit 30.
In addition to the master unit 30, the remote controller 40 also has a keypad 41 to set up functions of the auxiliary units 34 and 35. In other words, the remote controller 40 and the master unit 30 have the same setting function, and the remote controller 40 can set up functions of the auxiliary units 34 and 35 from any location. Hence, use of the system of the present invention is very easy. While the master unit 30 or the remote controller 40 is used to set up the functions of the auxiliary units 34 and 35, incorrect pushing of any key can lock up the system automatically for a certain period of time before it can accept instructions from a keypad.
As shown in Fig. 3, each auxiliary unit 34,35 has three LED indicators. The LED indicator 50 is a regional alert setting indicator, the LED indicator 51 is a regional or overall alarm state indicator, and the
LED indicator 52 is an alert readiness indicator. In addition to serving as sensors like those in conventional alarm systems, the auxiliary units in the integrated alarm system according to the present invention can display the condition of the alarm system, and functions of the alarm system can be controlled by the remote controller 40 through the auxiliary units 34,35.
As described above, the integrated alarm system has a master unit and a plurality of auxiliary units connected in series by means of communications ports to simplify connection, which means that only a single-line connection is required for setting up any large-scale alarm system. Moreover, any auxiliary unit which is not functioning can be replaced easily, and the existence of any non-functioning auxiliary unit would not adversely affect the functioning of the alarm system. In comparison with the remote controller in a conventional alarm system which can disarm the alert state, the remote controller according to the present invention can also set up functions of the auxiliary units.
