Abstract
A small portable refrigerator may be carried on the shoulder using the strap provided or attached to a ruck sack, cycle cross bar or handlebar, motor cycle top box etc. using loops provided at the rear. The battery pack is charged initially using an external ni-cad battery charger via the socket (5) provided in the side of the chill-box, after which a solar powered charging circuit keeps the battery pack charged. Solar panels fit in recesses in the lid (6) and front (7) of the box. The refrigerator may be used for camping, hiking, fishing, touring, cycling and picnicing or at any time when food or drink need to be kept cool. Also ideal for keeping and conveying blood or any other medical items that need to be transported at a low temperature. <IMAGE>
Description
SOLAR POWERED CHILL-BOX.
This invention relates to a solar powered chill-box.
Cool boxes in various shapes and sizes are available to kepp food and drink cool. However these are effective up to about eight hour only.
Portable refrigerators are also available, but either have to run off mains electricity, a car battery or lighter socket, or a gas cylinder.
According to the present invention the chill-box remains cool at all times as it contains its own refrigeration unit, powered by a ni-cad battery pack which is charged by solar power, provided by two solar cells, via a built in charging circuit.
After an initial charge via the external charging socket the chill-box is self sufficient.
Refering to the accompanying drawings the cool compartment occupies the centre section 1
A refridgeration unit 2 is enclosed in the left hand compartment and this cools the floor of the cool compartment. A means of adjusting the temperature with a control knob is s provided The battery pack and charging circuit is in the right hand cmpartment 4 complete with external charging socket 5.
Solar panels fit in recesses in the lid 6 and front 7 of the box. The latter being able to swivel out as shown 8.
The lid 5 fitted with two hinges at the rear 9 and secured with clasp 10. A sealing gasket 11 is provided.
During darkness the battery pack keeps the chill-box functioning.
The chill-box is provided with a shoulder strap 12, and can also be attached to a rucksack , cycie crossbar or handlebar, motorcycle top box etc. using loops 13 provided at the rear.
Claims (5)
1. A solar powered chill-box which chills food, drink etz.
and keeps it continually col@ as does a domestic refrigerator, but with the convenience of being ligntweight and portable.
2. A solar powered chill-box, as zlaimed in @@ that can be carried with a shoulder strap attatched to the body of the chill-box as shown, or using the loops provided at the rear to attatch the chill-box to a ruck sack, cycle cross bar or handlebar, motorcycle top @o@ etc.
3. A solar powered chill-box as claimed in 1. and 2.
that helps stop the spread of bacteria in food as might take place in a lunch box on a het day.
4. A solar powered chill-box as claimed in 1. 2. and 3, can be used in a medical capacity for transporting blood, or any other substances that require being kept at low temperaures.
5. A solar powered chill-box as claimed in 1. 2. 3. and 4, can be used by fishermen for keeping their bait and catcr cool.
