Abstract

A display stand for ladies stockings, tights or elongate hosiery comprises a frame 1 with an arcuate edge 3. The items to he displayed are secured at intervals along the edge 3 by transparent clips 10 and at a central region of the frame by foot member 2 which also supports the frame 1 in a vertical position. Description

DISPLAY STAND This invention relates to a display stand for displaying ladies stockings and tights or light elongate hosiery.

Ladies stockings are generally sold in packets which have a small transparent window through which the colour and shade of the stockings may be viewed. This manner of display, however, is not satisfactory as the colour and shade of the stockings in the packets change when they are worn because they are stretched. Moreover, it is very difficult to compare the colours and shades of stockings in different packets.

It is also known to display stockings using a moulded model of the leg over which a stocking is stretched. This is an expensive way of displaying stockings, and requires a lot of display space in order to exhibit a range of colours and shades.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and generally compact display device which is capable of exhibiting a variety of colours and shades of stretched sockings, tights or hosiery from which selection may be made.

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a display stand for ladies stockings and tights or light elongate hosiery, comprising: a frame with an arcuate edge or rim to which a plurality of such items may be secured at intervals, at or near one end of the item, and securing means at a central region of the frame to which the items can be secured at their respective other ends so as to give a display of the plurality of items, each in a more or less stretched elongate fashion converging from the arcuate rim to the central position.

The frame may comprise a generally semi-circular support sheet held at its centre between the upstanding walls of a foot member. The support sheet may be transparent and may be centrally apertured so that the items extend across the aperature in free, stretched, mutually converged flights, and may be recessed at intervals along the arcuate edge to give locating restraints. The centre of the sheet may also be recessed at its straight edge to accommodate the inner ends of the item.

The foot member may comprise a base sheet, the front and back edges of which have been folded in along the base and thereafter upwards, with the optional incorporation of spacing members to give a vertical holder configuration for the support sheet.

The invention further extends to the combination of such a display stand with insert cards to stretch for display one end of the item, and a plurality of clip means to secure such cards to the arcuate edge.

The invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front elevation of one embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is a front elevation of the embodiment shown in Figure 1 in use; Figure 3 is a side perspective view of the embodiment shown in Figure 1; and Figure 4 is a side view of a clip used in the present invention.

The display device shown comprises a support sheet 1 which is supported by a foot member 2.

The support sheet 1 is semi-circular in shape with an arcuate edge 3 and a straight edge 4. The arcuate edge 3 has a plurality of recesses 5 and the straight edge 4 has one recess 6.

The foot member 2 comprises a sheet of polymeric material which has been folded along lines 2a and 2b and which has upright ends 8. The upright ends 8 have spacing members 9 to keep them slightly spaced apart.

A clip 10 is used to fix one end of a stocking to a recess 5 on the arcuate edge 3 of the support sheet 1.

The clip 10 is made of a sheet of polymeric material which has been folded along lines 10a and lOb.

Tickets may be inserted into the two folded ends of the clip 10 to show the name/number of the stocking which it fixes in place.

The support sheet is 500 mm in diameter; the arcuate edge is 50 mm in width; and the straight edge is 70 mm in width.

To use the display frame, one end of each stocking to be displayed is attached to an insert card, a folded piece of cardboard, which is hooked over one of the recesses 5 on the arcuate edge 3 of the support sheet 1. A clip 10 is then passed over the insert card to fix it firmly in place.

The other ends of the stockings are then stretched and folded over the recess 6 on the straight edge 4.

Holding the ends of the stockings folded over the recess 6, the middle section of the straight edge 4 is passed between the upright ends 8 of the foot member 7 so that the recess 6 is covered by the upright ends 8. In this way, each stocking is held stretched across the support sheet 1 between a clip 10 at one end and the two upright ends 8 of the foot member 7 at the other end.

Thus, a simple and generally compact display device is used to display a variety of stretched stockings from which selection may be made.

Claims

CLAIMS: -

1. A display stand for ladies stockings and tights or light elongate hosiery, comprising: a frame with an arcuate edge or rim to which a plurality of such items can be secured at intervals, at or near one end of the item; and securing means at a central region of the frame to which the items can be secured at their respective other ends so as to give a display of the plurality of items, each in a more or less stretched elongate fashion converging from the arcuate rim to the central position.

2. A display stand as claimed in claim 1, wherein the frame comprises a generally semi-circular support sheet held at its centre between the upstanding walls of a foot member.

A display stand as claimed in claim 2, wherein the support sheet is transparent and is centrally apertured so that the items extend across the aperature in free, stretched, mutually converging flights, and the support sheet is recessed at intervals along the arcuate edge to give locating restraints.

4. A display stand as claimed in claims 2 or 3, wherein the centre of the sheet is recessed at its straight edge to accommodate the inner ends of the item.

A display stand as claimed in claims 2, 3 or 4, wherein the foot member comprises a base sheet, the front and back edges of which have been folded in along the base and thereafter upwards, with the optional incorporation of spacing members to give a vertical holder configuration for the support sheet.

6. A display stand as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, further comprising insert cards to stretch for display one end of the item, and a plurality of clip means to secure such cards to the arcuate edge.
