Abstract
226,943. Lloyd, S. C., Gowan, S., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Nov. 26, 1923. Liquid resistances.-In an electrolytic resistance of the kind wherein the relative positions of two electrodes in an electrolyte are varied in order to vary the resistance, the electrodes 13, 14, which are in the form of intermeshing plates, are surrounded by a vertical insulating tube 17 which is open at both ends to the electrolyte contained in a tank 1 and is provided at its lower end with an insulating plug 21 having a channel 23 for the circulation of the electrolyte. The fixed electrode 13 is carried by an insulated conductor 4 having a collar 24 resting on the block 21, and the movable electrode 14 is carried by a rod 8 connected to a rod 10 which may be raised or lowered on guides 11 by a rod 12 and operating lever. The electrode 14 is guided in its descent by the engagement of a block 16 with a conical guide 15 carried by the lower electrode. The several units of a polyphase electrolytic variable resistance are as shown, mounted in a common tank 1 provided with a tubular cooler 25, the rods 8 of all the movable electrodes being connected to the common rod 10.
