Abstract
This invention applies to the visors which are to be found on modern motor cycle helmets A of the full face variety. A plastic sheet or sheets the same shape as the visor is/are attached to the visor B by means of an adhesive strip on both sides. When the outer sheet becomes dirty it is peeled off, using tabs C, leaving the clean sheet below. <IMAGE>
Description
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to tear-off visor protectors for crash helmets, or protective eye wear.
Racing drivers wear removable clear plastic covers for the visors of thier crash helmets as the cover becomes obscured by squashed insects or dirt the outer cover can be torn off leaving a clear surface to look through. These clear surfaces can be in several layers depending on conditions and the time the helmet will be worn for.
These clear plastics sheets are currently held in place by studs that are set in the side of the visor.
My invention is to have the clear plastic sheets held onto the visor by an adhesive applied in such a way (see drawing) that when the tabs of the top one are pulled only that one comes away - leaving the others in place.
The adhesive could be applied in strips at the side of the visor protection, or around the edge.
The protectors are folded over at the ends so that when the top one is removed the tab on the next one is exposed so that it too can be removed when the time is right.
These tabs are kept in the folded position by the presence of the protector on top of it so that - with maybe a gloved hand - only the outer layer protection is removed.
These protectors would be of special use to motor cyclists, who are prone to the obscuring of thier vision by squashed insects, or general dirt, landing on the vision of thier crash helmets or goggles whilst they are driving along.
Claims (11)
1 This is a plastic sheet ,or sheets which are attached to the visor of a motorcycle helmet, or other form of protective headgear.
2 The sheet is attached to the visor by means of an adhesive.
It can be attached to the inside, or outside of the visor.
3 The adhesive is such that the sheet can be detached from the visor when a sun shield is not required i.e. at night
4 The invention is an advantage over a tinted visor in that by sticking more than one layer on the clear visor the degree of tint can be controlled.
5 This invention can also be used in the form of multilayered clear sheets so that the outside sheet can be removed whilst riding the machine to give a new clear screen to see through when the removable outer layer is obscured by dead flies or other debris.
6 The adhesive is such that the screen can be taken off when not required and put back on again many times
7 The legal requirement of tinted lenses fixed to the visors of motor cycle helmets is that they let through at least 50 per cent of light. This particular sheet that is currently in use will let through more than that.
8 The cost advantage of this invention over a regular tinted visor, apart from the foregoing, is very substantial.
9 This sheet which forms the basis of this invention could be made of a yellow material which is said to aid night time vision.
10 This invention does not require holes to be drilled in the visor as is the case with the other forms of vision improving attachments which are currently on the market.
11 It is not my desire to extend the inherent dangers of motorcyling, and for that reason this invention is recommended for off road use. The use of black visors is very popular in motor cycle road racing.
