When unfolded, the corner covering member (10) has a shape conforming to a land a center line (C) which divides it into two L-members, each of which has an arm section (1, 3) perpendicular to the center line (C) and a transverse section (5, 6) parallel to the center line (C). It also has a first fold (2) between the two arm sections (1, 3) along the center line (C) and an elongated slit (4) formed between the transverse sections (5, 6), also along the center line (C) thereof. Each of the arm sections (1, 3) have two spaced second folds parallel to the center line (C), and each of the transverse sections (5, 6) have two spaced third folds perpendicular to the center line (C). <IMAGE>
Description
CORNER COVERING MEMBER
This invention relates to a corner covering device, more particularly to one which is to be employed at the corners of a box so that an object, such as a T.V or a fragile member, to be packed in said box can be transferred to a destination without damage.
Referring to Figure 1, a conventional corner covering member (10) incorporated at the corners of a box for packing an object, such as a T.V or a fragile member, so that the object can be transferred to a destination without damage. As illustrated, the corner covering member has a predetermined shape and is made from a polystyrene foam material. It includes three walls (1,2,3), each of which has two adjacent joining sides. Each of the joining sides of each of the walls is connected to one of the two joining sides of the other two of the walls, and the three walls are perpendicular to one another so to define a corner therebetween (4). While packing a fragile object in a box, the corner covering members (10) are disposed at the corners of the fragile object, and it is put in the box.
Some drawbacks of the corner covering member are:
(1) It can endure limited impact or weight due to its construction. Therefore, it can not be employed in lifting all kinds of objects, such as a heavy machine.
(2) After the packed object is untied, the corner covering member becomes waste material, and such occupies already scarce space. Since the corner covering members are flammable, keeping them for recycling or reuse poses a threat to the environment.
(3) The corner covering member can not be depressed and even if it could, it can not be reused. A shopkeeper needs a large store-room in order to accommodate them, which is very inconvenient for the shop-keeper.
A main object of the present invention is to provide a new corner covering member which is clear of the above drawbacks.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a corner covering member which can be reused and which does not occupy a very much storage in a shop.
Accordingly, a corner covering member of the present invention is made from a one-piece foldable paper card which, when folded, has three walls, each perpendicular to the other. When unfolded, the corner covering member has a T-shaped with a center line dividing it into two L-members. Each of the L-members has an arm section perpendicular to the center line and a transverse section parallel to the center line. The paper card further has a first fold between the two arm sections along the center line and an elongated slit between the two transverse sections and aligned with the first fold. Each of the arm sections has two spaced second folds, which folds are parallel to the center line and each of the two transverse sections has two spaced third folds, which are transversed to the center line thereof.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent in the following detailed description, including drawings, all of which show a non-limiting form of the present invention, and in which:
Figure 1 shows a corner covering member of the prior art;
Figure 2 shows a T-shaped foldable paper card of the present invention which can be folded to make a corner covering member;
Figure 3 shows a corner covering member of the present invention; and
Figures 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively show the steps for folding a T-shaped paper card of the present invention to make a corner covering member.
Referring to Figure 2, a corner covering member (10) made from folding a T-shaped paper card (10') of the present invention is shown to include a first wall (1), a second wall (3) and a third wall (20) which are perpendicular to one another so as to define a corner therebetween.
When the corner covering member (10) is unfolded, it has a T-shaped formation (10') with a center line (C) dividing the same into two L-members, each of which has an arm section (1,3) perpendicular to the center line (C) and a transverse section (5,6) parallel to the center line (C). The T-shaped formation (10') further has a first fold (2) between the two arm sections and a slit (4) between the two transverse sections (5,6) and aligned with the center line (C). Each of the two arm sections (1,3) has two spaced second folds {(13,11) (31,33)} parallel to the center line (C), and each of the transverse sections (5,6) has two spaced third folds +(53,52) (62,63)) transverse to the center line (C).
The first fold is a single-line fold, and the second and third folds are double-line folds. In the preferred embodiment, the two arm sections (1,3) are divided into three equal regions by the second folds.
The transverse sections (5,6) are also divided into three equal regions so that each region in the arm sections is correspondingly equal to one region in the transverse section. As to the width of the double-line fold in the arm and transverse sections, it can be arranged according to need and should not be limited as discloses herein.
Referring to Figure 4, the arm section (3) and the transverse section (6) are folded such that the first region is overlaid on the second region of the arm section (3) while the first region is overlaid on second region of the transverse section (6). The two arm sections (1,3) are turned 90 degrees relative to the two transverse sections (5,6) as shown in Figure 5.
Afterwards, the arm section (3) is turned 90 degree at the single-line fold (X) relative to the other arm section (1), wherein the folded transverse section (6) will overlay the other transverse section (5), as shown in Figure 6. The arm sections (1) and the transverse section (5) are respectively folded as indicated by the arrows in Figure 7. The transverse section (3) is then folded again, as indicated by the arrows in Figure 8, upon which a corner covering member according to the present invention is obtained as shown in Figure 3.
As illustrated, the corner covering member has a base (20) with two side walls (1,3) extending upward from two sides of the base. It can be provided at the corner of an object which is later packed in a wooden, paper or any suitable packing box so the object can be transferred to a destination without sustaining any damage thereto.
An important aspect of the present invention is that one can easily understand from the above explanation that since the corner covering member has a
T-shaped formation, a plurality of T-shaped formations can be kept in a pile, which will correspondingly occupy little space. Only when it is to be used is the
T-shaped formation folded into the predetermined shape and disposed at the corner of a packing box. Since the corner covering member of the present invention can be reused, the expense of buying new ones can be reduced.
Another important aspect is that since the corner covering member is made of a paper material, the corner covering member can endure a heavy weight, thus not limiting the weight of an object and correspondingly widening the application field of the same.
