Abstract

Hydrocarbons, distilling; rectifiers. - In frartionatihg oil vapours so as to obtain a fraction of definite boiling- point range, the vapours are passed through a dephlegmator 11 from an inlet 12 to an outlet 18 and are washed by cold condensate delivered by a pipe 42 on to the upper tray of the dephlegmator. The condensate condenses all the higher boiling fractions and at the same time absorbs lower-boiling vapours, which are subsequently separated in a still 21. The liquid from the base of the dephlegmator passes by a pipe 19 and is divided into two streams, one stream passes through a pipe 25, tubes 24 traversing the still and a cooler 34 from which it is forced by a pump 41 to the top of the dephlegmator. The other stream passes by a pipe 26 into the still 21 which has partitions 27 dividing the vapour space into compartments which have separate vapour outlets 28. Steam is injected into each compartment through perorated pipes 20. The liquid freed from light fractions is withdrawn through a pipe 29.
