Abstract

226,632. MacGregor, J., and Scott & Son (London), Ltd., G. Oct. 9, 1923. Screw, helical blade, and rotating conveyers.- A process of drying offal &c. consists in subjecting the offal to cooking, draining, squeezing, and drying-operations. The material is fed from a hopper into a crusher e from which it falls into a steam-jacketed cooker a having rotary stirrers b that propel the material along the cooker to a drainer i having a porous wall i<4> and a vacuum jacket which is connected by pipes j<1> to a suction pump. The rotary stirrer shaft of the drainer carries a conveyer worm k which compresses the material and discharges it into the uppermost of a series of steam-jacketed vacuum drying-cylinders l from the lowest of which the material falls into a pair of hoppers p each of which can be isolated from the vacuum drying-cylinders. The plug of material formed by the conveyer forms a seal between the cooker and the drying-cylinders. Steam may be admitted into the cooker through pipes a'.
