Abstract

Game apparatus comprises a woven cap 20 and a soft ball 25 whose outer surface is provided with a number of strips 26. The strips 26 are each formed with a plurality of hooks on their outer surfaces. If the ball is thrown against the cap 10 it becomes releasably attached. The game is to be played by scoring points by hitting different parts of the cap 20 with the ball 25. <IMAGE>

Description

Game Apparatus The present invention relates to game apparatus for an action game to be played by two or more players in which the aim for one player is to strike another player with a projected game piece.
According to the invention there is provided a game apparatus comprising a target arranged to be worn on the body of a first player and a game piece arranged to be projected towards the target by another player, in which the game piece is the form of a soft ball having an outer surface provided with small close together hooks and the target is in the form of a cap having an outer surface provided with a plurality of cooperating loops such that on impact the surfaces cooperate together to releasably attach the game piece to the target when the game piece strikes the target.
The surface of the target may be divided into a plurality of distinct parts for the game piece to strike.
The parts of the target may be associated with game scores and separated from one another.
Embodiments of the invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a target, in the form of a cap; Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the cap of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of a game piece, in the form of a ball; Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the cap 20 is formed of four woven fabric panels 21, 22, 23 and 24 sewn together. The panels 22 and 23 are the same colour and a different colour to both the panels 21 and 24. In terms of the game, the different colours represent different game scores. The front and bottom of the body of the cap 20 are open to accommodate the face and neck of a wearer. The edges of the front and the bottom of the cap body have binding pieces 27 and 28.The binding piece 27 is elasticated or formed with an internal elastic strand to hold the front edge of the cap 20 against the wearers forehead. The binding piece 27 extends at its two ends beyond the edges of the cap 20 to form two straps 29. The straps 29 are used to tie and hold the cap 10 on the wearer's head.
In Figure 3, the ball 25 is formed by six cotton panels sewing together and filled with spongy rubber material. A separate fabric strip 26 is sewn on each panel to provide burred or hooked exposed surfaces for the ball. The strips may all be the same colour or some of them different colours, as preferred. The exposed surfaces of the strips 26 cooperate in use with the looped surfaces of the woven fabric of the panels 21 to 24 to releasably attach the ball to the cap 20 when the ball 25 strikes the cap 29.
The ball 25 is generally soft and light so that if the ball 10 strikes the player's face, for example, no injury occurs. Also, the ball 25 will generally compress and spread out to some extent to become attached to one of the panels 21 to 24 even if it does not strike directly or initially with the a strip 26 when it strikes the cap 20.
In the described arrangement, the exposed surfaces of the strips 26 and the outer surface of the cap are preferably arranged to form a Velcro (trade mark) type connection, the strips 26 being formed with numerous small hooks whilst the surface of the cap 20 is formed with numerous co-operating loops.
The game apparatus is designed to be played by two or more combatant players, each wearing on his head a cap 20 to form the targets for the balls 25. In the course of the game, each player attempts to throw a ball 25 at the head of the other player or players who move around to try to avoid being hit. With a successful throw, the ball 25 will become attached on the cap 20 of another player concerned, to score points according to which part of the cap 20 the ball 25 attaches.
Once each score has been noted, the ball 25 attached to the relevant cap 20 is removed to continue or recommence the game simply by pulling the ball 25 away from the cap 20.
Alternatively, the ball 25 may be left attached to the cap 10 and the game continued. In the latter case, the game is played preferably with smaller balls so that the balls can remain more easily attached to the caps 20 as the game continues.
In a different embodiment of the game apparatus, the outer surfaces of the caps may be at least partly covered by a dry tacky rubber coating. Such coatings are known in the toy and games trade, such as for the soles of climbing spiders or the like. Also, the targets may take the form of a vest, an arm band or a leg band, for example, to be worn by the players as alternatives or as additions to the described caps 20.
