Abstract

The minimum spilling plastic drinking cup lid 2 comprises an upstanding cone 3, a central orifice 4 and within the orifice, a readily removable, pin vented when necessary, plastic sealing disc 5. The outer rim is identical to that of the commonly used flat lid thereby to enable it to close and seal normal plastic cups after beverage filling. The lid enables beverages contained in plastic cups to be treated and drunk without removing the lid. <IMAGE>

Description

MINIMUM SPILLING PLASTIC DRINKING CUP LID This invention relates to a minimum spilling plastic drinking cup lid.
Plastic cups used for containing and consuming beverages are commonly closed and sealed after filling by a basically flat, blank, press on, removable plastic lid. The lid has to be removed from the cup after it has been filled to enable some beverages to receive additives, to be stirred and or tasted, or just to be drunk.
It is difficult when removing the lid and afterards, especially during unsteady transportation, to prevent the beverage from swaying and thereby spilling, sometimes seriously damagingly, from the unlided cup.
moreover if the latter accidentally topples to the horizontal all the beverage in it is spilled.
According to the present invention a plastic replacement for the common flat lid is provided comprising essentially of an upstanding cone, a central orifice at the cone apex and within the orifice, a readily removable, pin vented when necessary, plastic sealing disc.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of exanple with reference to the accompan.ying drawing in which : Figure 1 shows a typical plastic cup after filling and closing with the minimum spilling plastic lid.
Figure 2 shows the filled and closed cup as Fig 1 made ready for use b the beverage consumer.
Figure 3 shows how a beverage contained as Fig 2 may be stirred and or tasted if required, or simply drunk, by means of a rigid plastic tube inserted in the central orifice.
Figure 4 shows how a beverage contained as Fig 2 may be tasted and drunk directly through the central orifice if a drinking tube is not provided.
Figure 5 shows that when a cup as Fig 2 topples to the horizontal much of the beverage remains unspilled.
Referring to the drawing, Fig 1 shows a typical plastic cup 1 ,the minimum spilling plastic lid 2 and essentially therein, the upstanding cone 3, the central orifice 4 and the readily removable, pin vented when necessary, plastic sealing disc 5. The outer rim of the lid is necessarily identical to that of the commonly used flat lid, thereby to enable it to close and seal normal plastic cups after filling.
The sealing disc is removed as shown in Fig 2 when it is desired to treat or consume the contents of a filled cup as shown in Figs 3 and 4.

Claims (3)

1 A minimum spilling plastic drinking cup lid essentially comprising , an upstanding cone, a central orifice at the cone apex and within the orifice, a readily removable, pin vented when necessary, plastic sealing disc.
2 A minimum spilling plastic drinking cup lid is claimed in Claim 1 whereby beverages contained in plastic cups can be treated and drunk without removing the lid.
3 A minimum spilling plastic drinking cup lid whereby the loss of content from a filled plastic drinking cup toppled to the horizontal is minimized.
