Description

STRUCTURE OF RAIN HOOD FOR A VEHICLE REAR VIEW MIRROR DFSCRIPTION The present invention relates to rain hoods and relates more particularly to a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror to protect a vehicle rear view mirror from rain or snow.
Regular vehicle rear mirrors are generally mounted on the two front doors or the hood of a vehicle at two opposite sides. While driving a car during raining, rain drops are frequently falling on the rear view mirror, window lasses and windshield of a car to interfere the driver's vision. Therefore, a car is generally equipped with a windshield wiper for removing water from the windshield thereof. However, there is still no any effective measures available for protecting the rear view mirrors or window glasses of a car from the rain or snow.
The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which keeps a rear view mirror in good condition for reflecting the view behind.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which protects a rear view mirror from rain and snow.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which can be molded onto a rear view mirror directly during its production.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which provides a sense of beauty to make a vehicle rear view mirror more attractive.
It is a yet further object of the present invention to provide a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which is simple to manufacture, easy to install and practical in use.
According to the present invention, there is provided a rain hood for a vehicle rear view mirror which has two opposite channels on the two opposite side wall portions of the outer shell thereof through which it can be conveniently directly mounted on the casing of a vehicle rear view mirror through top loading. Once the rain hood is mounted on a vehicle rear view mirror, the top wall portion and the two opposite side wall portions of the outer shell extend from the peripheral edge of the casing of the vehicle rear view mirror for a distance sufficient to protect the vehicle rear view mirror from rain or snow without affecting its operation in reflecting the images of objects behind the motor vehicle.
The present invention will now be described by way of examples with reference only to the annexed drawings, in which: Fig. 1 illustrates a first embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention which is mounted on a rear view mirror at the front of a car's body; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rain hood taken on shown Fig. 1 in an enlarged scale; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on Fig. 2 along line 3-3; Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on Fig. 2 along line 4-4; Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on Fig. 2 along line 5-5; Fig. 6 illustrates a second embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention which is provided for use to protect a motorcycle's rear view mirror against the rain; Fig. 7 illustrates a third embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention;; Fig. 8 illustrates a fourth embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, therein illustrated is a first embodiment of rain hood constructed in accordance with the present invention which is generally comprised of an outer shell 1 formed of two side wall portions 13, 13' joined by a top wall portion 12. The. two side wall portions 13, 13' each has a channel 11 or 11' extending downwards from the top edge to the bottom edge thereof. Through the channels 11, 11' on the two side wall portions 13, 13', the outer shell 1 of the rain hood can be conveniently sleeved on a motor vehicle's rear view mirror 21 from the top.
The outer shell 1 further has two lock screws 111, 111' attached thereto at one side which are respectively inserted through the channel 11' on the side wall portion 13'. By screw tight the lock screws 111, 111', the outer shelll is firmly secured to the rear view mirror 21.
Referring to Fig. 6, therein illustrated is a second embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention which is suitable for protecting a motorcycle's rear view mirror from the rain. As shown in the drawing, the outer shell 3 of the rain hood has an expanded top wall portion 32 transversely disposed at the top and two side wall portions 33, 33' symmetrically disposed at two opposite sides. Similar to the aforesaid first embodiment, two channels (not shown) are d on the two side wall portions 33, 33' at the inside through which the outer shell 3 of the rain hood can be directly sleeved on a motorcycle's rear view mirror and then secured in place by two adjusting screws. After mounting, the top and side wall portions 32, 33, 33' shield the rear view mirror from the rain or snow without affecting its operation in reflecting the images of objects behind.
Referring to Fig. 7, therein illustrated is a third embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention which is provided for use in an old model of Japanese car. The outer shell 4 is formed of a top wall portion 42 and two opposite side wall portions 43, 43' which are incorporated into a circular arch shape accommodating the outer appearance of an elongated rear view mirror 41 so as to protect it from the rain or snow.
Referring to Fig. 8, therein illustrated is the fourth embodiment of rain hood according to the present invention in which the outer shell 5 can be conveniently adjusted according to the size of the rear view mirror onto which it is to be mounted. The outer shell 5 is comprised of two parts 51, 52 each of which is comprised of a top wall portion 511 or 521 and a side wall portion 512 or 522, wherein the top wall portion 522 of the right-hand part 52 has three sliding slots 523, 524, 525 at two opposite ends and the middle respectively. The top wall portion 521 of the right-hand part 52 covers over the top wall portion 511 of the left-hand part 51 and secures by three adjusting screws 526 which are inserted through the sliding slots 523, 524, 525 into the top wall portion 511 of the lefthand part 51. By means of the adjusting screws 526, the total covering area of the outer shell 5 can be adjusted according to the size of the rear view mirror to which it is mounted. The shape of the top wall portions 511, 521 and the shape of the side wall portions 512, 522 may be respectively made according to the shape of the top wall portion 12 and the side wall portions 13, 13' of the first embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2.
