Abstract

The syphoning system illustrated in the drawing is designed to be easily operated by one person. The first arrangement of the system requires one side nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10 to be connected to a tap with the other side nozzle attached to the outlet hose. The syphoning process is initiated as follows. With the T-shaped coupling 10 held under water, a finger is placed over the unconnected nozzle of the coupling and the tap is turned on. After a short time the tap is turned off and the finger is used to sense whether or not water is being sucked into the unconnected nozzle. If not, the process is repeated until suction indicates that syphoning is taking place. The second arrangement of the system requires one side nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10 to be blanked off using the cap 11 with the other side nozzle connected to the outlet hose. The operator connects the other end of the outlet hose to a tap and turns the tap on. Once bubbles cease to emerge from the open nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10, the hose is fully charged and disconnecting the outlet end of the hose from its tap will result in syphoning taking place. The sucker ensures that the T-shaped coupling 10 is held under water. <IMAGE>

Description

SYPHONING DEVICE This invention relate to a syphoning device.
Syphoning is a well known technique used for emptying liquids out of containers. It may be usefully employed for recycling bath water znr use in the garden. Recycling water in this way results in economies in the consumption of water, and it is therefore an effective way of reducing metered water bills. Moreover, it enables gardeners to water their plants even when drought conditions prevail and hose pipes are banned. Using a garden hose as a syphon requires that the hose is charged with water; this charging can be done from either end of the hose. The difficulty is in assessing when the pipe is fully charged (since the other end of the hose may be remote form the user), and ensuring that the syphoning end of the hose remains submerged.
The syphoning system consists of a piece of hose and a T-shaped coupling attached to . sucker A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Figure 1 illustrates one arrangement of the syphoning system.
Figure 2 illustrates the T-shaped coupling.
Figure 3 illustrates the blanking cap.
Figure 4 illustrates an alternative arrangement of the syphoning system.
The syphoning system illustrated in the drawing is designed to ri easily operated b one person The +irst arrangement of the system requires one side nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10 to be connected to a tap with the other side nozzle attached to the outlet hose. The syphoning process is initiated as follows. With the T-shaped coupling 10 held under water a finger is placed over the unconnected nozzle of the coupling and the tap is turned on. After a short time the tap is turned off and the finger is used to sense whether or not water is being sucked into the unconnected nozzle. If not, the process is repeated until suction indicates that syphoning is taking place. The second arranoement of the system requires one side nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10 to be blanked off using the cap 11 with the other i de nozzle connected to the outlet hose. The operator connects the other end of the outlet hose tb a tap and turns the tap on. Once bubbles cease to emerge from the open nozzle of the T-shaped coupling 10, the hose is fully charged and disconnecting the outlet end of the hose from its tap will result in syphoning taking place.. The sucker ensures that the T-shaped coupling 10 is held under water.

Claims (3)

  1. i. A syphoning device consisting of a piece of hose connected to a T-shaped coupling. One side of the T-shaped coupling is either connected via a piece of hose to a tap or else it is blanked off. The other side of the T-shaped coupling is connected to the outlet hose.
  2. 2. w syphoning system as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the -shaped coupling attached to a sucker is connected to the hose.
  3. 3. A syphoning system substantially described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
