Abstract
A traffic cone cover (10) of clear polythene which can be affixed to a traffic cone (14), and when dirty, can be removed and disposed of. The cover is releasably secured to the traffic cone, and can be easily removed from the traffic cone, and can subsequently be replaced with a fresh clean disposable traffic cone cover. <IMAGE>
Description
DISPOSABLE TRAFFIC CONE COVER
This invention relates to a Disposable Traffic COne Cover.
Traffic cones are well known articles comprising a plastic cone of varying heights, usually between 23cm and 112 cm, normally orange or red in colour, which stand upright on a footing, foot or base, such footing, foot or base often being detachable. The traffic cone has a band of contrasting colour around its middle, usually of white reflecting material.
These traffic cones are often used for traffic management, in particular with temporary schemes while roadworks are in progress.
For safety reasons traffic cones need to be cleaned on a regular basis, and traffic management companies and organisations issue contracts for such cleaning work. Usually cones require cleaning each week, although in summer this can be every two weeks. However, in Winter, in bad weather conditions, the cones may need cleaning every second day. The Police can give instructions to the traffic management company or organisation when they feel the traffic cones need cleaning. The cleaning process is relatively expensive and labour intensive.
According to the present invention there is provided a disposable traffic cone cover, similar but slightly larger in size to the traffic cone which it is intended to cover, comprising a clear polythene sleeve or cover to be fastened to the cone by the use of elastic bands or proprietory glue to the foot, footing or base of the cone and/or to the flanges which generally protrude from the otherwise conical shape of the traffic cone.
The cone cover will be either pointed at the top or cut off at the top end depending upon the type of traffic cone for which it is intended. The cone cover will be open at the bottom end.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be supplied by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective, the disposable traffic cone cover;
Figure 2 illustrates the disposable traffic cone cover being positioned upon a traffic cone;
Figure 3 shows the disposable traffic cone cover fully fitted on the traffic cone;
Figure 4 shows the disposable traffic c one folded flat.
Referring to the drawings, the disposable traffic cone cover comprises a clear polythene sleeve 10, open ended at the top 11 and at the bottom 12 with a seam 13, where the polythene sheeting from which the cover is constructed is welded together in the construction process.
In order to install the cover, the plastic sleeve 10 is lowered over the traffic cone 14 down to its footing, foot or base 15.
In order to secure the cover, elastic bands 16 are put over the cover and traffic cone, as shown in fig.3. Alternatively, proprietory glues can be used to secure the cover to the traffic cone. As a further alternative, or additional means of securing the cover, the "tail" 17 at the bottom end of the seam/weld 13, can be pushed through the gap between the traffic cone and the detachable footing, foot or base. If the disposable traffic cone cover is pointed at the top end (for traffic cones with an open aperture at the top end the point of the cover 17 is tucked into the aperture 18.
To remove the cover from the traffic cone the steps described above are carried out in he reverse sequence.
Claims (3)
1. A disposable traffic cone cover,similar but slightly larger in size
to the traffic cone which it is intended to cover, comprising a clear
polythene sleeve or cover to be fastened to the cone by use of
elastic bands or proprietory glue, to the foot, footing or base of the
cone and/or to the flanges which generally protrude from the otherwise
conical shape of the traffic cone. The cone cover will be either pointed
at the top end or cut off at the top end, depending upon the type of
traffic cone for which it is intended. The cone cover will be open
at the bottom end.
2. A traffic cone cover as claimed in claim 1 which does not require
cleaning and can be disposed of.
3. A disposable traffic c one cover substantially as described herein
with reference to the figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings.
