Abstract

A combined ice bucket and water dispenser comprises a container (10) divided into an upper chamber (14) for receiving ice and a lower chamber (16) by water permeable filter means (18). Melt water from the upper chamber is collected in the lower chamber and may be dispensed therefrom via an outlet (22) by operation of a tap (24). The container is mounted on a base member (12) having a recess (32) located beneath the tap. <IMAGE>

Description

combined Ice Bucket and Water Dispenser" The present invention relates to a combined ice bucket and water dispenser for use in bars and the like.
Conventional ice buckets simply provide a container for ice, in which the ice is normally in contact with water from melted ice. This accelerates the melting of the ice and is wasteful of both ice and water. A bar will normally also have sparate water jugs for use by customers.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a combined ice bucket and water dispenser which serves the dual purpose of separating ice contained therein from melt water and which provides a reservoir of water, eliminating the need for separate water jugs or the like.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a combined ice bucket and water dispenser comprising a container divided into an upper chamber for receiving ice and a lower chamber separated from the upper chamber by water permeable filter means, whereby melt water from the upper chamber is collected in the lower chamber, the lower chamber further including outlet means whereby the collected water may be dispensed as required.
Preferably, said filter means is removably located on a lip extending around the interior side walls of said container.
Preferably also, said-outlet means includes a manually operable tap.
Preferably also, said container is mounted on a base member whereby said outlet means is vertically spaced from a supporting surface.
Preferably also, said container and said base member are separable.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is an exploded side view of a combined ice bucket and water dispenser embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a top view of the ice bucket/water dispenser of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an exploded, sectional view of the ice bucket/water dispenser taken on line III-III of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings, a combined ice bucket and water dispenser in accordance with the invention comprises a generally cylindrical container 10 and a generally cylindrical base member 12, suitably formed from a moulded plastics material. The container 10 is open at the top and closed at its bottom, and is divided into an upper chamber 14 and a lower chamber 16 by a water-permeable mesh filter 18, removably located on an annular lip 20 extending around the interior surface of the container 10. The lower chamber 16 is provided with an outlet 22 adjacent the bottom thereof which may be opened and closed by means of manually operable tap 24. The -lip 20 may be moulded integrally with the body of the container.
The container 10 is removably mounted on the base 12 by means of an annular shoulder 26 extending around the bottom of the container which engages an annular lip 28 around the top of the base member. The filter 18 may be removed from the container 10 for cleaning or replacement, and the container may similarly be separated from the base 12 for cleaning.
In use, ice is placed in the upper chamber 14, and is accessible from the top of the container 10. Melt water from the ice drains through the filter 18 into the lower chamber 16, from where it may be dispensed as required by means of the tap 24. The base member 12 spaces the tap 24 vertically from a supporting surface 30, and may be provided with a moulded recess 32 located below the tap 24 to improve accessibility for a glass 34.
The container 10 may provided with a lid (not shown) if desired, and may be thermally insulated by use of suitable insulating materials, double-skin walls etc as is well known in the art.
The invention thus provides an ice bucket in which melt water is separated from the ice therein, and which also functions as a dispenser for chilled water.
Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.

Claims (10)
