Abstract
A re-usable portable profile formwork system has an internal metal framework (Fig. 2) that can adapt to varying size and configuration and is both erectable and demountable at the work location, by provision of slidable and knockdown joints 1. Around its periphery are set vertically slidable interlocking palings 5 that when slidably interlocked to each other, adopt the profile of ground or other obstructions beneath its bottom face, building a shuttering wall to a determined length and configuration that allows obstructions to pass through and beneath its vertical faces. The void beneath the obstruction is bridged with sheet material, trim pieces 6. When materials cast against the outer face of the formwork are cured all component parts can be dismantled quickly and stored or re-assembled for use elsewhere by one person. <IMAGE>
Description
RE-USABLE PORTABLE PROFILE FORMWORK
This invention relates to a re usable portable profile formwork or shuttering system allowing repeatable casting in any suitable material of manholes, pits, tanks etc, through which may pass from wall to wall obstructions such as pipework and ducting.
Form work or shuttering is used by the construction industry for the casting of concrete or other materials in many shapes and forms. Traditionally formwork has to be purpose made to each and every construction.
Of particular difficulty is the casting of manhole chambers through which pipework, ducting or other items have to pass from wall to wall at varying levels throughout its depth. Conventional purpose made formwork in these situations is labour intensive and therefore expensive whilst not achieving good finish.
Nor having the facility of portability or being re usable. The chief object of this invention is to evolve a low cost, portable and reusable formwork that allows cast manhole, tank or pit construction to be repeatable to good standard whilst allowing cost savings in both, labour and materials. The equipment is of such size and weight that only one person is needed to erect and demount the structure.
By virtue of its low weight and compactness is easily stored and transported in an average car boot.
According to the present invention there is provided a re usable portable profile formwork or shuttering system. Whose sidewalls will adopt the profile around any obstruction passing through its configuration.
Comprising an inner supporting framework usually rectangular in plan view, but can be of most geometric shapes.
The framework essentially has corner posts of number to suit its geometric configuration. Upon the corner posts are slidably mounted one or more brackets with means of locking them to the corner post at any height, together with the facility of allowing quick release attachment of both longitudinal and transverse struts to two faces of each bracket most usually at 900 to each other coupling corner posts and transverse and longitudinal struts forming a rigid box like structural inner support to the formwork around its perimeter.
Formwork set adjacent to and around the perimeter of supporting frame essentially comprises of sufficient individual vertical palings to the determined overall dimensions that are both slidably mounted and interlocked to each other, providing rigidity in both vertical and horizontal planes, but allowing individual vertical movement each to each other. The sliding vertical movement of each paling allows the formation around any obstruction or profile within its vertical face. Apon the outer face of the paling wall and cut closely around the protruding obstructions are set sheet material trim pieces that seal around obstructions and the void beneath taking peripheral support from the adjoining palings.
A special embodiment of tile invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1
Shows in perspective the reusable portable profile formwork complete with its inner metal support frame and trim pieces in a typical situation with pipework obstructions passing through its walls.
Figure 2
Shows in perspective the inner support frame assembly.
Figure 3
Shows cutaway detail of knock down corner joint assembly.
Figure 4
Shows in perspective a corner bracket.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention as illustrated an adjustable metal angle framework as depicted in Figure 2 supporting adjacent to and around its perimeter slidable interlocking metal, plastic or wooden palings 5 and sheet metal plastic or wooden trim pieces 6.
Assembly of the unit begins with at least two square tubular corner brackets 1 being slid onto each metal angle corner post 2 and locked into the desired position by turnscrew 3.
Positioning the corner post assemblies in the excavation to the desired manhole configuration longitudinal and transverse struts 4 are now located in turn to each topmost corner bracket by means of engaging a fixed pin positioned at each strut extremity within a tubular socket attached to the vertical face of each corner bracket thus holding the assembly to the desired position by the abutment of the strut end face to that of the corner bracket vertical face. As illustrated in Figure 3.
At this stage the framework now resembling a table is adjusted for height level and location within the excavation. The lower corner bracket 1 on each post if required can now be slidably adjusted in conjunction with assembly to the lower struts 4 in exactly the same manner as the topmost struts 4 whilst allowing clearance by the strut of any obstruction.
Now creating a box like structure as shown in
Figure 2.
Starting from a corner post the vertical slidable interlocking palings 5 are assembled against the perimeter of the frame as illustrated in Figure 1 interlocking to each other and vertically adjusting to the profile of that below it forming a complete shuttering around all faces of the framework and having adjusted to the base contours and any pipework or other obstructions in the face walls.
Trim pieces 6 of sheet metal plastic or wood are cut closely around protruding obstructions allowing close sealing and covering the void below the obstruction whilst taking peripheral support from adjacent palings as shown on the elevation in Figure 1.
Construction of the manhole against the formwork outer periphery in cast concrete, glass fibre reinforced plastic or any other medium can now be accomplished.
After the casting medium is cured the demounting of the formwork is carried out from within the manhole in the sequence described above but dismantling components at each step.
