Abstract
A plant container 1 has a removable insert 2 to enable removal of container contents 3 to be achieved with ease, minimal risk of growth compound spillage, and avoidance of damage to roots and plant. <IMAGE>
Description
IMPROVED DESIGN OF PLANT CONTAINERS This invention relates to the design of containers used for propogation, growth and display of seedlings, plants, bushes and trees.
Containers constructed from a variety of naterials are widely used in the
horticultural industry and in domestic, commercial and industrial premises
for the growth and display of all types of plants and related species. Such
containers are conmonly available with a circular cross-section tapering to
a smaller cross-section at the base but other geon-ietric shapes are also
known including square, rectangular and triangular cross-section.
All these known designs suffer from the disadvantage that renoval of the
contents is difficult to achieve without-inverting the container and
risking damage to the plant or roots or spillage of the growth compound
surrounding the roots.
It is the objective of this invention to provide two-part container
design which facilitates removal of the contents and minimises the risk
of plant damage and spillage.
In accordance with this invention a two-part construction is employedin which the outer portion is of established shape and dimensions but into which is fitted a shaped insert conferring to the cross-section of the
container. This shaped insert, which nay be of flat, dimpled, ridged or
serrated construction, serves the purpose cf distributing the weight of
the plant anti growth compound when removing the contents of the container
for transplanting to another container or to a final location.
Specific use of the invention will now be described by way of example with
reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows in cross-section the container wlth the shaped insert in
position
Figure 2 illustrates the raising of the shaped insert.
Figure 3 shows the separaticn cf insert from container.
Referring to Fig 1, the plant container comprises an outer porticn 1 of known design, and a conforming shaped insert 2 which represents the feature of the improved design.
In Fig 2, removal or the contents 3 is effected by moving the insert 2 in a direction relative to the outer portion 1 as illustrated by the arrow 4. This may be done either by piacing an object of appropriate shape under the insert or by pushing under the insert by hand.
Once the insert and contents have been separated from the outer container as shown in Fig 3 it is a simple matter to transfer the contents to another container or a final position.
Claims (2)
1 A multi-part container for the propogation, growth and display of plants and related species in which a removable inner part or parts support the contents cf the container, especially during the stage of transplanting.
2 A container insert or inserts conforming to the approximate cross-section of the container and either of flat constrcticn cr dimpled, ridged cr serrated, fully or partially, to confer additional rigidity, which may or may not be perforated.
