Cases and stands. -Low-potential zinccarbon elements are connected in series by direct contact of the carbons and zincs of adjoining elements arranged in vertical columns in a cratelike wooden case or frame. Fig. 1 shows a view in elevation and Fig. 3 a view in plan, partly in section. The elements f of canister shape are superposed in columns in shaped compartments d in a wooden frame. Metal strips i at the base connect the elements of the appropriate columns in series and similarlv with metal yokes k at the top. The yokes k also serve to hold down the columns of elements, being held by springs rand screws s, which screw into a cover m. A tubular socket o is connected at the top of one end column and receives the wander plug for one of the leads. The other wander plug fits in a socket q in a detachable wedge p which may be inserted between the zinc of any element and the wooden frame to tap off the desired potential. A yoke or bifurcated clip to embrace the zine casing of an element may replace the wedge p.
