Abstract

A tool for forming holes, which tool comprises a hollow body (1), an opening at a soil-engaging end of the body (1) for enabling the soil-engaging end of the body (1) to receive a plug of soil when the soil-engaging end of the body (1) is inserted into the ground, and plunger means (3, 4) for ejecting the plug of soil when the soil-engaging end of the body (1) has been taken out of the ground, the plunger means (3, 4) including a plunger handle (2) which extends beyond the body (1) and which is constructed and adapted for manual operation. <IMAGE>

Description

WEED PUMP GUN The purpose of this tool is to remove weeks from lawns by taking out a soil plug. The obstinate ones are those with long tapp roots - dandolions, ground elder, docks etc.

The tool is simply pushed into ground, eased back and pulled out with soil plug and weed inside, the whole lot cleared out by pushing plunger down and ejecting plug of soil. Holes filled with sand seed and peat. Other jobs are many using this one can make bulb holes; set pot plants; dig deep post-holes with ease. Will also syphon out blocked drains, gulley pots with ease. For the workman this will need to be 3 foot long with a bore of 2i". If kept clean and oiled will last years; pumping in soapwater and oiling is the best way.
WEED PUMP GUN 1. Steel tube pump body, honed inside with one end cut at 45 degrees and the other threaded inside.
2. Pump Handle 3. Pump Spindle 4. A piston in which are set three piston rings, the whole part secured to spindle by lock nut.
5. Cap threaded inside pump body, has hole at centre which acts as bearing for moving pump spindle.
6. Foot rest for pushing tool into ground. Can be folded upwards.
7. Strong offset handle for guiding the tool.

Claims (1)

1. A tool for forming holes, which tool comprises a hollow body, an opening at a soil-engaging end of the body for enabling the soil-engaging end of the body to receive a plug of soil when the soil-engaging end of the body is inserted into the ground, and plunger means for ejecting the plug of soil when the soil-engaging end of the body has been taken out of the ground, the plunger means including a plunger handle which extends beyond the body and which is constructed and adapted for manual operation.
2. A tool according to claim 1 in which the hollow body is in the form of a cylindrical tube, A A tool according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the soil-engaging end of the body is an angled end for facilitating the insertion into the ground.
4. A tool according to claim 3 in which the angled end is a 450 angled end.
5. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims in which the plunger means comprises a piston device which slides backwards and forwards in the body consequent upon respective pulling and pushing of the plunger handle.
6. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims in which the plunger handle is a D-shaped plunger handle.
7. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims and including a footrest for facilitating the insertion of the soil-engaging end of the body into the ground.
8. A tool according to claim 7 in which the footrest is an upwardly foldable footrest.
9. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims and including a guide handle for guiding the tool during use of the tool.
10. A tool according to claim 9 in which the guide handle extends at an angle to the body and away from the soil-engaging end of the body.
11. A tool according to claim 9 or claim 10 in which the guide handle is a D-shaped handle.
12. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims and including a screw threaded cap which closes the end of the body remote from the soil-engaging end of the body.
13. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims in which the body is made of steel.
14. A tool according to any one of the preceding claims and which is 3ft (91.44cm) long and in which the body has a 2.5 inch ( 6.35 cm) bore.
15. A tool for forming holes, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
