Abstract

A rotating warning light of the gyrating light type is characterised in that a bulb (4) is secured at the top of a transparent cover (2) of the gyrating light (1), and a reflector (5) is secured directly on the shaft of a motor (6). <IMAGE>

Description

IL 1 " L_ 1 Title: Rotating warning light DESCRIPTION is The present
invention relates to a rotating warning light, or the gyrating light type.
If known devices,. which serve as warning means, more especially for priority-type automotive vehicles, a lamp is disposed in a base, which is surrounded by a reflector supporting ring.
The rotary drive of the ring and the reflector is generally indirectly ensured by a speed-reducing motor assembly, which utilises a rotor-type motor, and, in consequence,' considerable radio- frequency interference phenomena and considerable sound generation occur.
The present invention seeks to overcome these disadvantages.
In accordance with the invention, a rotating warning light of the gyrating light type is proposed for such purpose, characterised in that a bulb is secured at the top of the transparent cabochon of the gyrating light, and the reflector is secured directly on the shaft of a motor.
The motor utilised is preferably a stepped or synchronous motor or a servo-motor having a continuous current. In all of the cases, the drive means is is 2 direct. A significant reduction in the abovementioned interference emissions results therefrom.
The invention will now be further described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a side elevational view, in partial cross-section, of a gyrating light according to the invention.
The gyrating light, generally referenced (1), comprises externally a cover (2) formed from transparent plastics material, which is possibly coloured.
The cover is centred on a support (3), which is disposed, for example, on the roof of an automotive vehicle.
Disposed in the interior of the cover (2) are, respectively, a bulb (4) and a reflector (5), which is set in rotation by a motor (6).
The motor (6) is positioned on the support (3). The bulb (4) is integral with the cover (2) at its upper portion via the intermediary of a socket (7). The electricity supply has not been illustrated.
Provision will be made for the vertical shaft of the bulb (4) to coincide with that of the motor (6).
The reflector (5) is secured directly on the shaf t (9) of the motor by means of a support bracket (8), which is formed from plastics material and ensures 1 111 ITI! 1 3 an interruption of the heat bridge to avoid any excessive heating of the motor.
The securement of the gyrating light in a f ixed position is identical to the prior art.
In a detachable version, securement of the gyrating light is ensured by three magnets (10) mounted on a flexible support so as to ensure better adhesion to a non-planar surface.
It will be possible to utilise any type of direct driving motor, such as, in a non-limiting manner:
a stepped motor; a synchronous motor; a servo-motor with a continuous current; or any other motor with selectable speed of rotation.
The motor. driven by an electronic circuit which determines the rotary speed, drives the reflector directly.
The reflector will have a configuration adapted to legal requirements.
