Abstract
A hazard warning device 10 has a base 11 for securement, e.g. by glue or bolts 25, on the surface of a road or the like and a post portion 12. The base 11 has a central aperture 13 so that it can be lowered over the portion 12 to bring a shoulder 17 on the base 11 into contact with a peripheral rib 21 on the portion 12 to resist upward movement of the portion 12 when the base is secured on the road. The portion 12 could be tapered for stacking and the rib and shoulder need not have closed peripheries. A light-reflective sleeve 27 can be provided on the part 12.
Description
IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO
CONTROL OR WARNING DEVICES
This invention relates to control or warning devices.
According to the invention a control or warning device comprises a base for securement on a road or the like surface having an aperture there-through, and a portion engageable with the base to be upstand- ing from the base, the portion being adapted for relative movement with respect to the base so as to extend trough the aperture and having a formation engaging or engageable with the base to resist upward movement relative to the base.
The fornication may be an outwardly extending rib engaging or engageable with a shoulder on the base.
The rib may have a closed periphery.
The formation may be adapted to engage the surface when the base is secured thereto.
The portion may be hollow.
The portion riay have an upper part for receipt of a reflective sleeve and a lower part of larger crosssection than the upper part which is receIvable in the aperture.
the invention may be performed in various Vays ana one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a respective view of a post or bollard part in section;
Fig. 2 is a side view of a modified post;
Fig. 3 is an underneath view of a nodification; and Fig. 4 is an exploded perspective view of part
of Fig. 1.
A control or hazard warning device 10, for exarple a marker device, comprises a moulded plastics base 11 and an upstanding portion 12.
The base 11 is generally circular in plan and includes a central aperture 13 defined by surface 14 including upper vertical cylindrical portion 15 and lower in.lardly and upwardly inclined portion 16 providing a downwardly facing shoulder 17. The post portion 12 is hollow and noulded of plastics and has a closed top 18, and a cylindrical part 19. The part 19 has an enlarged section 20 at the lower end leading to an outwardly extending peripheral rib 21 having outer surface 22 and extending corapletely around the post. the portion 12 is inserted into the base 11 upwardly through the aperture 13 for example by lower Ing the base downwards over the post until the surface 22 engages beneath the shoulder 17. The device 10 can then be secured on the surface 25 of a road, oath or te like.For example the underface 24 of the base 11 can be glued or otherwise adhered to the surface 23; or angularly spaced boits shown schenatically at 25 can be used. ;Pnen secured, the end 26 of the portion 12 engages the surface 23 and surface 22 engages shoulder 17 so that the portion 12 is held firmly in the base 11. The part 19 is flexible and when bent over e.g. by impact with a vehicle will return to vertical on release.
The part 19 can carry a sleeve 27 of light- reflective character.
In a modificati..n shown in Fig. 2, the part 19 is tapered to enable a plurality of portions 12 to be stacked.
The rib 21 need not extend round the complete periphery; for example the rib 21 can be interrupted by one or more gaps 28, Sig. 5, in which case the shoulder 17 need not extend round the complete peri- phery of aperture '3, being omitted in the regions of the gaps.
The device 10 can or example be used as a ane nearer on a road.
It will be understood that the portion 12 can only be inserted in one relative direction tro the aperture 13 if the rib 21 is to engage the shoulder 17.
The base and part 12 need not be circular.
The parts of the base and post which resist upward movement can have different shapes than the rib 21 and shoulcier 17.
The described arrangements are to be contrasted with arrangement having a socket portion into which the lower end of a post is inserted and removed from above. In such arrangements the post does not extend through the socket.
Claims (7)
