Abstract

In equipment intended for the transportation and stacking of cylinders containing compressed gases, a cylinder is situated on top of two brackets, which are stabilised by two metal support rods, secured by adjustable locking rings. The cylinder is strapped into the device, ensuring safe carriage. This item is designed to accommodate any size cylinder within the range particular to Sports Diving requirements. <IMAGE>

Description

COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDER SAFETY CARRYING EQUIPMENT This invention relates to compressed gas cylinder carrying equipment.
Previously, compressed gas cylinders such as compressed air or other gas cylinders used by SCUBA divers used to be held in a fireman's type harness or backpack. This provided a little stability during transit. Due to the light weight of the harness, and the fact that it is a seperate entity from the lifejacket, there was no real need to remove the cylinder from the harness. However, due to the recent invention of the Stabilizer (STAB) jacket, this situation has changed. Due to the nature of the STAB jacket, cylinders are normally removed to enable filling, and also for transit purposes, as STAB jackets are expensive and may be damaged during transit if attached to a cylinder.
Recently many cylinders are therefore not contained in any form of harness, particularly during transit to and from the dive sitel They therefore present a risk of damage to other items since they often roll loose, for instance, in a car boot.
At present there is no device known to accommodate a cylinder Qf this type for the purpose as above.
This invention provides anditem of compressed gas cylinder safety carrying equipment suitable for accommodating and/or arresting a compressed gas cylinder, either when stationary and/or during transit.
A description of the cylinder safety carrying equipment will now follow as demonstrated in diagram A - a single compressed gas cylinder safety carrying equipment designed essentially for the transit of an individual cylinder.
This item comprises of: Two brackets as illustrated in diagram A - 1 manufactured in man-made material or wood, shaped to accommodate any diameter cylinder size. End elevation is shown in diagram A - 2. Plan view is shown in diagram A - 9.
Support rod means comprising for example of two plastic coated metal support rods, on which the brackets are carried, on which they may slide to accommodate varying lengths of cylinder.
Illustrated in diagram A - 3.
Adjustable locking-rings situated on each end of the metal support rod. This is to prevent displacement of the bracket.
(Eight per item in total, each located either side of a bracket).
Illustrated in diagram A - 4.
Adjustable safety belts with buckle, situated between the two brackets. These pass under the metal support rods and around the circumference of the cylinder. Purpose - to ensure the stability of the cylinder in transit, so ensuring safe carriage. Manufactured from rubber or synthetic material.
A description of the item of cylinder safety carrying equipment will now follow as demonstrated in diagram B - stackable compress ed gas cylinder safety carrying equipment, each being designed to accommodate a respective single cylinder, and suck items being stackable one upon another while accommodating respeetive cylinders.
r Two brackets manufactured in man made material or wood. Shaped to accommodate any diameter size cylinder. One Dowel hole in each corner to accommodate one interlocking peg. Illustrated in diagram B - 5. Endlelevation shown in diagram B - 8. Plan view illustrated in diagram B - 10.
Four individual interlocking pegs, designed to fit into the Dowel holes in each corner of a bracket, and to the corresponding brackets above or below during stacking. Material - man-made.
Illustrated in diagram B - 6.
Two plastic coated metal support rods on which the brackets may slide to accommodate varying lengths of cylinder. Illustrated on diagram B - 7.
Adjustable locking-rings situated at the end of each metal support rod. Purpose - to prevent displacement of the bracket. (Eight per item in total, each located either side of a bracket). Illustration as for A- 4 (diagram).
Adjustable safety belts with buckle situated between the two brackets. Passes under the metal support rods and around the circumference of the cylinder. Manufactured from rubber or synthetic material.
The items are designed to accommodate any size cylinder (as in the last sentence of the Abstract).
Photograph A - illustrates the basic template of the single compressed air safety carrying equipment.
Photograph B - illustrates a side-on view of the above item holding a cylinder, with the axis of the cylinder disposed generally horizontally.
Photograph C - illustrates a bird's-eye view of the above item holding a cylinder.
Photograph D - illustrates the basic template of the stackable compressed air safety carrying equipment.
