Abstract
225,972. Lavaud, D. S. de. Oct. 4, 1923. Variable-speed ratchet gearing.-A swashplate 1, Figs. 9 and 10, which acts through rods c and' ratchets to drive a shaft S is kept from rotating and restrained against axial movement due to the pull in the rods c by a non-rotary anchoring and thrust member 3. The rotary hub 6 of the swash plate is supported in an inclined position on the driving-shaft 7. The hub 6 is adapted to slide along the shaft 7, and' by means of axial and inclined slots 23, 24 and trunnions 21, 22, the inclination of the swash plate is varied as the plate moves logitudinally, so that the shaft S may be driven with variable speed. By the use of a yielding abutment 8, the variation may be rendered automatic. The swash plate 1 rides on journal bearings 5 on the hub 6 and is connected to a slidable forked end 4 upon the thrust member 3 by a gimbal connection shown in the diagram, Fig. 3. The gimbal ring 2 is connected by a pair of aligned pillars 10 to the plate 1 and by a perpendicular pair of aligned pillars 9 to the fork 4. The upper and lower halves of Fig. 9 are sections in different planes. The rods c are evenly spaced as shown in Fig. 10. Other forms of gimbal connections are described.
