Description

PANEL A SPORT AND UNIVERSAL VISOR This invention relates to headgear for use in conditions which make it desirable to shield the eyes of the wearer.
Although not limited thereto, the headgear of the invention is suitable for use by outdoor sportsmen, for example golfers. It is especially useful for bespectacled golfers, who encounter difficulty when playing in rainy weather because they are continually put to the trouble of having to wipe raindrops from their spectacles.
The invention provides an article of headgear comprising a peak and a shield, said shield being downwardly directed from said peak for shielding the eyes of a wearer of said headgear.
The shield may be permanent secured to the peak, or integral therewith.
Alternatively, the shield may be releasably attachable to the peak. Accordingly, the invention also provides a shield adapted to be releasably attached to an article of headgear having a peak, in such manner as to be downwardly directed from said peak for shielding the eyes of a wearer of said headgear.
By way of illustration, and without limitation, the invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows an article of headgear according to the invention, Figure 2 shows a shield, Figure 3 is an enlargement of a detail of the article of headgear of figure 1, and Figure 4 shows the article of headgear according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows a peaked cap comprising a head-cover 1 which has a peak 2 attached to it. A shield 3, made of a flexible and transparent synthetic resin is attached to the peak 2 by means of rigid clips 4.
PANEL B Each clip 4, has two horizontal and two vertical limbs. The horizontal limbs sandwich the peak 2 and the verticaL limbs sandwich the shield 3 (figure 2). The shield 3 being thereby held in place so as to be downwardly directed from the peak 2.
Headgear made up of a head-cover like the head-cover 1 and a peak like the peak 2 is well known and is often used by golfers, the peak 2 serving as an eyeshade.
Such headgear can be quickLy converted into an article of headgear of the kind shown in figure 1 by attaching the shield 3 to the peak thereof by means of clips 4.
The headgear shown in the drawings is particularly usefuL to a bespectacled golfer. In dry weather the cap consisting of the head-cover 1 and the peak 2 can be worn without the shield 3. In rainy weather, the shield 3 can be attached to the peak 2 by the clips 4, the shield 3 then serving as a barrier against rain reaching the golfer's spectacles.
It will be realised that modification of the embodiment of figures 1 to 3 are possible. Various other means of attachment of the shield 3 to the peak 2 could be used, for example, press studs or interlocking strip fasteners. Alternatively, the shield 3 could be made integral with or permanently attached to the peak 3.
