Description

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION "Improvements in or relating to a Stationery Product" THE PRESENT INVENTION relates to a stationery product such as a wallet or box file for containing documents.
According to this invention there is provided a stationery product in the form of a wallet or file adapted to hold documents, the wallet or file defining a front wall, a rear wall and side walls, the front wall being pivotally connected to one of the side walls, there being a slot and co-operating peg connection between the front wall and two opposed side walls.
Preferably the said two opposed side walls carried by the rear wall each have an arcuate slot therein and two flaps provided at opposed edges of the front wall, each carry a peg co-operating with a respective arcuate slot in a side wall.
Conveniently the rear wall carries a flap defining a portion to form a top for the wallet or file and a portion adapted to overlie the front wall, means being provided to inter-connect said portion and said front wall.
Preferably the inter-connecting means comprise a resilient tongue and a slot adapted to receive the resilient tongue.
The product may be fabricated from a single blank formed of rigid polypropylene.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, and so that further features thereof may be appreciated, the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a documentholding wallet in accordance with the invention, with parts shown in phantom, and FIGURE 2 is a corresponding view showing the wallet in a closed condition.
Referring to the accompanying drawings a wallet for holding documents is formed from a single sheet of rigid polypropylene. The sheet is cut to form an appropriately shaped blank which is then folded to create the wallet 1 as illustrated. The wallet 1 consists of a back wall portion 2 which carries two side-wall portions 3,4 and a base forming portion 5 which in turn carries a front wall forming portion 6, and two inner tabs that may be bonded, welded, rivetted or secured by any other technique to the side wall portions 3,4. The front wall forming portion 6 has two rearwardly extending side flaps 7,8 which overlie the side walls 3,4 mentioned above. The front wall 6 also defines a central slot 9.
The back wall forming portion 2 carries, at its upper edge, a further flap 10 having a portion 11 which forms the top of the wallet and a portion 12 adapted to overlie the front wall 6. The portion 12 carries a resilient tongue 13 adapted to be inserted into the slot 9 to close the wallet.
Each side wall 3,4 is provided with an arcuate slot 14,15 each slot receiving a respective peg 16,17 carried by each of the triangular flaps 7,8 of the front wall forming portion 6. Each peg 16,17 has a central portion of reduced diameter, which passes through the slot, and enlarged ends to stop the peg becoming separated from the slot.
As can be seen from Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings the wallet can be opened by disengaging the tongue 13 from the slot 9 and folding the flap portions 11 and 12 upwardly, thus providing access to the interior of the wallet 1. When the wallet is in this condition the front wall may be pivoted forwardly about the crease between the front wall 6 and the bottom 5 of the wallet, the pegs 16 and 17 sliding along the arcuate slots 14,15.
The wallet may subsequently be closed, with the front wall again being moved pivotally, with the pegs 16,17 moving along the arcuate slots 14,15. The wallet has the configuration illustrated in Figure 2.
Whilst in the described embodiment the slots are formed in the side walls 3,4 and the pegs are mounted on the triangular flaps 7,8, this situation could be reversed with the pegs being provided on the side walls 3,4 and the slots being provided on the triangular portions 7,8.
The wallet may be provided with one or more section dividers. Such section dividers may be made from polypropylene sheet.
Whilst the described embodiment is fabricated from a single sheet of rigid polypropylene, embodiments of the invention could be made from different materials and could be made from more than one sheet.
Whilst the invention has been described with reference to an embodiment in the form of a documentholding wallet, another embodiment could have the same size and configuration as a conventional box file.
