Abstract
The operation of the ignition of a diesel engine is prevented electronically by an encapsulated unit until a predetermined combination of vehicle switch actuations, e.g. head lamp flasher and horn switches, is executed. The unit may have an override switch.
Description
Vehicle Immobiliser
This invention relates to a vehicle protection device
Vehicle protection devices are numerous and many versions are readily available. The vehicle immobiliser is fully automatic in it's operation and does not rely,as with most current systems, on audible-alarms.It automatically prevents the vehicle's unauthorised starting thus providing a really effective deterent to the would be car thief.St is an encapsulated unit which is so designed to be unobtrusive within the vehicles engine compartment but also as compatible as possible with the vehicles standard equipment and hence virtually un detectable.
Existing vehicle protection devices do not prevent the vehicle from being driven away. They actively announce their presence and hence invite the thief to prevent their operation. The vehicle immobiliser is relatively inexpensive in comparison with such devices and the thief has no easy way of detecting it's presence.
According to the present invention the vehicle immobiliser by electronic means(as described in detail in figure7) will prevent the vehicles ignition coil from generating enough energy to produce a spark. It can fitted to a vehicle with conventional or electronic ignition systems. The immobiliser function wire,or wires, can be connected to any existing switch or switches. It can be deactivated according to the preference of the driver and the approriate combination would be known only to him.Hypothectically it could be connected to a positive going headlamp flasher switch wire only,or alternatively,to both a positive going switch wire and a negative going switch wire.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings
in which:
FIGURE 1 shows in perspective ,the vehicle immobiliser with wires exiting through the underside of the encapsulated housing. The front face shows a small switch which can be
used to override the unit.
FIGURE 2 illustrates the~holes used for the mounting arrangement
The 4 or 5 wires exiting the housing are 1 metre long and
designated as follows.
1) BLUE to coil
2)WHITE to coil
3)BLACK to earth(Ring Tag Used)
4) YELLOW to switch
5) GREEN (May be Internally linked ) to switch
FIGURE 3 shows the override switch. When switched to the
off position the vehicle operates as normal and may be used
for service reasons.
FIGURE 4a shows the vehicle's switch in the off position.
FIGURE 4b shows the vehicle's ignition switch in the on
position in preparation for momentarily operating the selected vehicle switches.
FIGURE 5a/b shows the headlamp flasher and ,or the horn
switch being operated correctly and the immobiliser being
deactivated.
FIGURE 6 shows the ignition switch in the start position.
If the function switches have been operated correctly the vehicle will now start.
FIGURE 7 gives an electrical explanation of how the unit functions.
Refering to the drawing, the vehicle immobiliser is -a small plastic encapsulation which incorporates the circuitry shown in figure 7.It is hence of tamperproof construction with considerable resistance to the ingress of hostile material. The
hole mounting arrangement as shown in figure 2 is provided with suitable sized hole to facilitate it's attachment to existing bolts and is internally connected to circuits OV line. The wires would be attached to their various destinations by means of tap in connectors.Figure 3 shows the override switch that disconnects the varistor from the circuit. This operation would normally be performed automatically by the momentary operation of-selected switches.
Claims (6)
1) A-vehicle immobiliser of compact encapsulated construction which can be installed unobtrusively into any vehicle and would prevent the unauthorised starting of the vehicles engine by electronic means.
2) A vehicle immobiliser as claimed in claim 1 which would prevent the unauthorised starting of the vehicle's engine with both conventional and electronic ignition systems, including diesel powered engines.
3) A vehicle immobiliser as claimed in claim 1 or 2, which can be deactivated by means of an existing switch or switches.
4) A vehicle immobiliser as claimed in claim 3 which can be deactivated by means of positive or negative going switches.
5) A vehicle immobiliser as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the immobiliser can be deactivated by means of an override switch.
6) A vehicle immobiliser substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 to 7 of the accompanying drawings.
