Abstract

A hot/boiling liquid dispenser 6 for the handicapped comprises a device which when located within a suitable container 12 e.g a kettle, will when activated by the valve actuator 11 open a valve and thereby flood the dispenser with hot/boiling liquid commensurate with its size. After the valve is closed a dispenser tap 13 is opened and the volume of liquid held by the dispenser is then discharged into a cup or other suitable holder. <IMAGE>

Description

HOT/BOILING LIQUID DISPENSER FOR THE HANDICAPPED This invention relates to a hot/boiling liquid dispenser for the handicapped.
Hot or boiling liquid dispensers are well known eg. a kettle.
While these dispensers are easily used by the able bodied when the handicapped person, eg. the blind or partially sighted, endeavours to use a dispenser of this type they run the risk of spillage over themselves or household wares.
According to the present invention there is provided a hot/boiling liquid dispenser which when housed within a suitable container and the dispenser valve opened via its actuator will flood the dispenser with liquid commensurate with its size. Closure of the valve prevents further ingress of liquid and on opening the dispenser tap the predetermined volume of liquid is then allowed to discharge.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Drawing 1/2 Figure 1 shows in perspective the valve assembly.
Drawing 1/2 Figure 2 shows the valve assembly housed within the valve guide assembly/dispenser lid.
Drawing 1/2 Figure 3 shows in perspective the valve guide assembly/dispenser lid with the dispenser ventilation pipe shown.
Drawing 1/2 Figure 4 shows the lower dispenser with its support and discharge pipework.
Drawing 2/2 Figure 1 shows in perspective the full hot/boiling liquid dispenser.
Drawing 2/2 Figure 2 shows the hot/boiling liquid dispenser housed within a suitable container with the valve actuator and discharge tap indicated.
Referring to the drawings the hot/boiling liquid dispenser comprises a valve assembly comprising a valve actuator head 1, spring 5, screwed rod 2, valve 3 and valve support washer 4.
The valve assembly is then positioned within the valve guide assembly and fixed to the dispenser lid 6. The lid is fitted with a hollow ventilation tube 7, the tube length being so derived that it is always higher than the liquid held within the container 12.
The dispenser base 8 is made to the size determined by the volume of liquid requiring discharge and then joined to the valve guide assembly/dispenser lid 6. The dispenser is supported by means of a rod 9 the length of which is determined so that it supports the whole dispenser when fixed within the container 12. The discharge coupling 10 is connected as shown.
The whole dispenser is then located within a suitable hot/boiling liquid container, the dispenser support being so positioned that it does not interfere with the container heating element. The size of the dispenser is so derived that it will also allow normal heated liquid flow between it and the container side. The length of the screw rod 2 is so derived that when the actuator head is connected to it the valve actuator, typically a pushbutton, 11 when pressed will open the valve. The valve actuator is positioned on the container lid therefore allowing access to the dispenser.
A suitable on/off tap 13 is then connected to the coupling as shown.

Claims (2)

1. A hot/boiling liquid dispenser which when housed within a suitable container and the dispenser valve opened via its actuator will flood the dispenser with liquid commensurate with its size. Closure of the valve prevents further ingress of liquid and on opening the dispenser tap the predetermined volume of liquid is then allowed to discharge.
2. A hot/boiling liquid dispenser substantially as described herein with reference to Drawing 1/2 Figures 1-4 and Drawing 2/2 Figures 1-2.
