Abstract

A suspended staging system (1) for use as an escape system in offshore applications comprises a series of platforms (2) each connected to the adjacent upper and lower platform (2) by respective flexible elongate elements (3) and a plurality of elongate flexible guide elements (6) connected to one or more weights (7) below the lowest platform (10) and extending slidably through guide means (9) provided on each platform so that successive platforms can be raised and lowered by winding the guide elements to raise and lower the weight(s) (7), the guide means (9) being located inboard on the platforms, spaced from the edges thereof.
