Description

This application concerns a games board called Snooker/Pool 2000 Snooker and Pool are extremely popular games, familiar to virtually everyone but, few ever get the chance to play the game due to the capital expense of the equipment and space limitations in the average home.
This new version for the two games overcomes the problems stated above thereby bringing them within the reach of every home and although played in an entirely new format will have fun and skill levels in its own right The invention covers the games of Snooker and Pool to be played as a board game, the two opponents sitting opposite each other. The playing area is a square or oblong polished wooden or plastic surface with a pocket at each corner and uses wooden or plastic Discs instead of Balls which are then guided into the pockets by the "Striker which is flicked by the index finger and thumb for propulsion. The board is provided with functional markings that enables a player to break from either side for either game.A restraining wall is built round the playing surface thus keeping the discs "in play A Blue (Novice) and a Red (Advanced) Skill level line is provided on each players side of the board Figure 1 shows a drawing of the board not to scale Figure 2 shows the suggested arrangement of discs for pool before commencement of play., not to scale.
Figure 3 shows the suggested arrangement of discs for Snooker before start of play, not to scale Referring to Figure 1 the board cumprises a square or oblong wooden or plastic polished surface of appox. .25 - .40 sq. metres 1 with a wooden or plastic surround for restraining purposes 2, with pockets at each corner 3, a Red Skill level line 5 and a Blue Skill level line 6, and a functional pattern in the centre 4,Discs of wood or plastic, approx 13 mm diameter and approx 8 mm in height take the place of balls. These discs are coloured on one side to represent Pool i.e. seven yellow, seven red and one black, and coloured on the other side, as neccessary to represent Snooker i.e. fifteen red, and one each of yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, and black. These discs as coloured, carry points identical in value to the conventional games.
These discs are guided into the pockets by means of the " striker", a plastic disc approx 16mm diameter and 5 mm in height which is propelled by a flick of the fingers, forward or backward as necessary Variations from the conventional game of Pool Before play starts a skill level is mutually determined between the players thse levels are represented by Red line (Advanced Level) and a Blue Line novice Level). The "Striker" must be placed at any point on the chosen Skill level line before being flicked to attempt to guide a disc into a pocket and must be returned to this line for every subsequent attempt.
A player choosing the Blue (Novice) line can play from any line on his side that suits him, changing lines if necessary for each different attempt.but a player choosing to play from the Red line is always restricted to playing from that red line on his side only.
The Discs are placed at random or as suggested in Fig. 2, where 'A' represents a Red Disc, 'Y' a Yellow Disc and 'B' a Black Disc. These are placed within the Triangle whose base is closest to the player breaking.
After each attempt the Striker must be brought back and placed anywhere on the agreed Skill level line on the side of the next person due to play and the next attempt must be made from there Striking or pocketing an opponents disc carrys no penalty Variations from the conventional game of Snooker.
Skill level lines operate exactly as they do for Pool.
The discs are placed at random or as suggested in Fig 3, where 1-6 represents the positions of the discs coloured yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black in that order with the reds occupying the Triangle whose apex is closest to the player breaking This overall arrangemrnt is simply reversed when the opposing player is breaking.
After each attempt the Striker must be brought back and placed anywhere on the agreed Skill level line on the side of thr person next due to play and the next attempt must be made from there No penalties apply for striking a disc out of sequence but snooker rules apply to discs pocketed out of sequence.
The stated measurements for any of the equipment or the rules of the games themselves, are not in any way critical, The rules could be easily changed with the mutual agreement of the players concerned in order to maintain levels of interest or skill.
