Description
TIPS WITH EXTENDED MOUNTING FACILITY FOR. SNOOKER b OTHER CUES
This invention relates to tips with extended mounting facility for snooker & other cues.
Tips are currently afixed to snooker a other cues at the end which strikes the cue-ball. They are in the form of a disc which is of diameter similar to that of the cue-end. One side is flat the other convex. They are afixed with the flat side to the end-face of the cue.
The purpose of the tips is firstly to protect the end of the cue when in contact with the cue-ball & secondly to provide a surface which, with an application of suitable chalk, will allow a player to cause the cue-ball to spin as well as travel when struck.
Tips as currently used, however, although otherwise satisfactory offer limited surface area for the fixing purpose. Speciallised fixing agents, great care & degree of skill are required in order that a satisfactory bond is achieved. Even when the foregoing requirements are met a tip may become partly or completely detached during play rendering the related cue useless until the tip can be re-afixed.
According to the present invention there is provided a cue tip having an integral sleeve or ferrule. This is of size & form to facilitate mounting onto a cue having its end as currently produced or a cue with its end adaptable to suit it.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows, in orthographic projection, the tip mounted upon a cueend as currently produced.
Figure 2 shows the tip mounted upon a cue-end adapted to suit it.
Referring to the drawing the tips comprise a portion 11 similar to a tip as currently used with the material from which it is made being a suitable substitute for that as currently used. The material may also be of texture & or feature an inclusion which may render the use of chalk unnecessary. The tips also have a portion 12 in the form of a sleeve or ferrule integrated with the portion 11. The tips may be fixed to a cue-end 13 or held by other means incorporated in the tip a or cue adaption. When a tip is not fixed it My be slid from the cue-end & BR< replaced by another as required.
Claims (2)
1. A cue tip comprising a portion similar to a tip as currently used b a portion in the form of a sleeve or ferrule integrated with the other. The sleeve or ferrule portion is of shape & size to facilitate its being mounted directly onto a cue-end as currently produced.
2. A cue tip as claimed in claim 1 wherein the sleeve or ferrule portion is of shape & size to facilitate its being mounted upon a cueend which is adaptable to suit it.
