Abstract

Scaffolding for a building to facilitate roof construction or repair includes three spaced horizontally extending bracket members (1) with one end of each bracket being secured to a fixture (2) which connects with or sits over parapet (3) of a building (4). The fixture (2) may comprise two longitudinally extending boards or discrete brackets. A load supporting platform (5) is located on the bracket members (1) and may be secured thereto. The platform may be constructed from a series of parallel boards. The front ends of the bracket members (1) are connected with a transverse bearer (6) supported by strut members (7) each of which bears against a suitable part of the building such as a window ledge or sill (8). <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE Scaffolding for Bulldlng This invention relates to scaffolding for buildings and is primarily concerned with scaffolding facilitating construction and repair of roofs without requiring supports extending from the ground to roof level.
Broadly, and in accordance with this invention, there is provided a scaffolding structure comprising a plurality of spaced horizontally extending bracket members, one end of each member having a fixture to connect with the parapet of a building and extending outwardly thereof, a load supporting platform carried by said bracket members, strut members having their one ends connected adjacent the other ends of each bracket member, the other ends of said strut members having means to bear against a part of the building structure below said platform. In one construction the strut members extend from the bracket members inwardly towards the building and include securing means to connect with the building structure.
Preferably the fixtures on the bracket members comprise front and rear abutment members which engage over and each side of the parapet, with said mernbers being adjustable in spacing.
The bracket members may have their other ends connected by a transverse bearer with the strut members connected to the bearer. A handrail may be provided around the peripheral region of the platform.
This invention is further described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings showing an embodiment, by way of an example only. In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a side view of a scaffolding structure according to this invention, Figure G shows a front view, Figure 3 shows a view from above, and Figure 4 shows a view from above of the platform.
Referring t the drawings the scaffolding structure shown is intended to be used primarily for support at roof level, without requirIng ground bearing comNnents, and includes three spaced horizontally extending bracket members 1 with one end of each bracket being secured to a fixture 2 which connects with or sits over parapet 3 of a building 4.
The fixture 2 may comprise two longitdinally extending boards or discrete brackets. A load supporting platform 5 is located on the bracket members 1 and may be secured thereto. The platform may be constructed from a series of paralell boards. The front ends of the bracket members i are connected with a transverse bearer f; supported by strut members 7 each of which hears against a suitable part of the building such as a window ledge or sill 8.
The structure is stabilised by the members 9 (see Figure 3) connecting between a rear upright 10 and a fixing li on the building. Uprights 12 are provided along the front of the platform and carry handrail. 13.
Side handrails 14 may be provided between uprights 10 and 12.
The fixture 2 will preferably be adjustable to accommodate various wall thicknesses and can be integral with a bracket member 1. The rear upright 10 may be secured to fixture 2 by clamps 15 and includes a further clamp 16 to secure the tie 9.
The structure may be constructed from standard components and adapted to the particular building in a simple manner.
