Abstract
225,462. Ranck, E. D. May 13, 1924. Tilting or inverting vessel apparatus. - A container 1 for liquid fuels, lubricating oils &c. is divided into two chambers by a partition 2 communicating only by a tube 10, a spout 6 leading from the lower chamber at a point opposite to the tube 10 and terminating in a nozzle 7 and cap 8. A vent tube 12 leads from the tube 10 out through the wall of the spout. The lower compartment fills from the upper compartment through an aperture 9, the displaced air escaping through a tube 11. The container can only be filled to the end of a tube 5 which can be closed by a cap 13. When the container is tilted for pouring, the liquid in the vent tube 12 having to leave that tube before vent air can enter, allows time for the tilting without wasting liquid ; further, the aperture 9 being above the surface of the liquid when the container is in the tilted position, only the liquid from the lower chamber can be emptied at one tilting, the apparatus thus serving for delivering measured quantities. To stop the flow before the lower chamber is emptied, the spout is immersed in liquid so as to cover the exit of the vent tube 12.
