Abstract
225,403. Wilson, S. S. Dec. 27, 1923. Moulds ; heating moulds ; delivery; strickles.-Relates to apparatus for the manufacture of sheets, tiles, &c. from asbestos-cement &c., of the type involving an absorptive slab of plaster &c., and consists in mounting the slab upon trunnions so that it can be inverted. As shown, the slab 1 is supported by trunnions 9, 10 mounted on supports 13, 14, and is held in a horizontal position by sliding rests 25, 26. The slab is carried by a framework of angle iron 2, 3 connected by side plates 5, 6 to the trunnions. A flattened heating-coil 15 is embedded in the slab and opens into the trunnions 9, 10, which are hollow and are furnished respectively with a steam &c. inlets 20 and outlet 23. The mould proper is formed of rigid end members 29 and flexible side strips 31 riveted thereto. Cover pieces 34 serve as stops to rigid side members 36. In use, the slab 1 is covered with a piece of jute canvas 38 covered with a sheet of paper 39 before applying the mould frame; altematively, the table may be covered with hessian coated with french chalk and covered with jute canvas &c. The material, roughly spread within the frame, is rolled level by a heavy roller 40, and subsequently a slat carrier 44 is applied and secured by pivoted eyebolts 46, after which the slab is inverted and the carrier removed with the moulded sheet.
