Description

WALLPAPERING TOOL The invention relates to a wallpapering tool.
A difficulty of wallpapering is that several tasks are involved, giving the need to use a diverse set of tools.
This adds to the complexity of the job, and makes it necessary for the wallpapering to be interrupted for the changing of tools. This prevents continuous attention to the task from being possible, and is especially inconvenient when paper has to be edged to enable it to be fitted around features.
Accordingly, the invention provides a wallpapering tool comprising: a tool body with a creasing edge, ing blade mounted on the tool to co-operate with ; easing edge, and at least one roller rotatably mounted on the tool body.
It is preferred that the blade extends from the tool body at an angle with respect to the creasing edge.
Preferably, the blade is slidably received within a recess on the tool body, and may be fixed to the tool body at a desired relative position. It is also desirable that the blade is snappable, and that the tool further comprises a means for snapping the blade, and also a pencil. Advantageously, the pencil can be mountable within the blade snapping means, and both can be located within a sealable recess in the tool body. The body tool may also comprise a ruler.
The tool of the invention can thus be used as a combined wallpaper edger and seam roller. It can also be used as a cutter for any other suitable materials. The incorporation of the features described above enables its user to measure, mark, cut, roll, seal and, where needed, snap the blade.
There is no need for separate tools to be carried for each function.
A tool according to the invention could be manufactured from plastics material, metal, wood or a combination of these materials.
A specific embodiment of the invention is described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of one side of the tool according to an embodiment of the invention. The other side view is identical.
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the tool shown in figure 1, viewed from the side.
Figure 3 shows a front end view of the tool of figure 1.
Figure 4 shows a rear end view of the tool of figure 1.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention. The body of the tool has a number of grooves 3, 4, 5 to provide an easy grip by which the tool can be held. A ruler 10 is provided at the bottom of the tool for measurement. It may be marked on both sides with centimetres or inches. At the bottom of the front of the tool (see Figure 3) a blade 11 protrudes, its cutting surface to the bottom. At the top of the front of the tool are two rollers 14, 15. These rollers protrude from the corner of the tool so that the tool itself does not impede their action when they a used to press the edges of the paper. The tool tapers in width from the middle to the bottom.
A normal cut can be made by resting the tapered side of the tool against the papered surface and pressing the creasing edge against the boundary which the edge of the paper is to abut. Pressing the point of the blade into the paper and moving the tool such that the knife point cuts along a crease formed by the creasing edge enables the paper to be edged efficiently. An overlap cut can be made by resting the side of a roller against the papered surface and cutting with the blade, the blade thus being some distance from the papered surface.
As can be seen from the view of Figure 3, the blade 11 is receivable within recess 12 of the tool body. The position of the blade may be fixed by thumb screw 13. When screw 13 is loosened, blade 11 is slidable within recess 12.
Movement may be aided by tapping on rollers 14, 15.
Tightening screw 13 against blade 11 fixes its position to the body. The screw can be fastened at any position along the length of the blade, so the desired length of protrusion of the blade can be selected. The blade 11 is preferably scored, so that blunted portions of it can be snapped off to obtain a sharp cutting edge.
As can be seen from the view of Figure 4, there is a recess 16 in the top part of the tool, with an opening to the back. A plug 17 is insertable in the recess 16. At either the inside or outside end of the plug is a snapper groove 18 for snapping the blade 11. Mounted on the plug and within the recess is a pencil 16.
Thus a number of necessary wallpapering tools can be performed with a single tool. The tool can be used to crease, roll and seal wallpaper edges, and to trim cleanly and accurately around fixed objects such as door frames, skirting boards and fitted furniture. Not only is this inherently convenient for the user, it also has the added benefit that the user need not move away from the site of wallpapering when engaged in the task. The tool can also be easily disassembled for cleaning.
