Abstract

225,238. Bellini, E. Nov. 24, 1923, [Convention date]. Directive signalling. - Relates to directional apparatus particularly applicable in cases where the two main loop aerials are of different dimensions as in aircraft installations. Instead of using electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling between the fixed and moving parts of the radiogonometer, .the signal voltages from the main coils are applied to a high resistance or potentiometer, the points of maximum or minimum reception being indicated by a balancing pointer sliding over the potentiometer. As shown in Fig. 1, the frame aerials are connected to terminals 2 arranged at intervals of 90‹ on a circular high-resistance wire or graphite 1, and the balance point is indicated by two insulated pointers 3 connected to an amplifier and forming a diametral arm rotated by a button O. In Fig. 5 the high resistance consists of a suitable electrolyte 2 contained in a vessel 1. The frame aerials are connected to four fixed plates or wires 3, and the amplifier to two moving plates or wires 5. The voltage curve for a complete rotation of the arm 3, Fig. 1, is triangular as shown in Fig. 2, instead of sinusoidal, when the transmitting station is in the plane of one of the receiving frames. When the direction of transmission is inclined at an angle of 45‹ the characteristic curve is trapezoidal as shown in Fig. 3, and for other inclinations the curve is more or less deformed.
