Description

Title: Wristwatch Cover DESCRIPTION The present invention relates to a protective cover for a wristwatch.

It is known to provide wristwatches with sealed casings so as to be "splash-proof " or even "waterproof" (i.e. capable of withstanding submersion) thereby protecting the watch mechanism from damage, especially corrosion. However for many owners, in particular of dress watches worn as jewellery as much as timepieces, damage to the outward appearance of watch cases is as important to prevent as water damage. Damage to cases, in particular scratching of glass covers, is difficult to avoid during active work or hobbies.

According to the present invention there is provided a removable cover for a watch capable of fitting over a watch-glass, at least in part transparent to permit viewing of the watch and allowing passage of watch-strap.

In order to maximise protection from both scratching and impact to a watch-casing it is preferred that the cover extend at least in part beyond the watchglass, preferably substantially enclosing said watchcasing.

In an embodiment of the invention the protective cover is contoured to fit over a watch-glass and has extended portions capable of gripping of the watchcasing. This, however, would not fit all watches and a second embodiment of the invention provides a cover capable of adapting to a wide variety of watch size and/or shape. In this second embodiment a cover is provided larger than the expected watch size, and capable of enclosing the watch-casing. Preferably a hinged construction is used comprising a base part hinged to an upper part to form a box-like enclosure for the watch. Preferably the base part is slightly curved to follow a general wrist contour. The upper part may have substantially upstanding portions to give a shallow open dish form, possibly rectangular or oval.

Cut-outs in the upstanding portions allow passage of a watch strap with hinging being provided between part of the upstanding portions and the base. Alternatively the base part may have upstanding portions with cut-outs for a watch strap and hinging between part of the upstanding portions and the upper part.

The present invention will now be described further, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wristwatch with a protective cover according to an embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is a perspective in view of the protective cover according to Figure 1; Figure 3 is a plan view of a wristwatch with the protective cover; Figure 4 is a side view A A wristwatch with the protective cover Referring to the drawings, the protective cover comprises two parts 10,20 hinged at 30. These form an overall box-like construction capable of containing a wrist-watch 40, with two apertures 31 and 32 to allow a watch-strap 41 to pass through.

The upper part 20 comprises a bevelled rectangular surface through which a timepiece is viewed.

Side portions 21 and 22 are provided, 21 having provision for hinging at 30 to part 10 and 22 having an extension 25, to aid opening of the cover. To give maximum protection there are provided end portions 23 and 24 which are cut away to allow for apertures 31 and 34.

The lower part 10 is a bevelled rectangular surface which forms a box-like cover when closed together with part 20.

Claims

1. A removable wristwatch cover capable of fitting over a watch-glass, at least impart transparent to permit viewing of said watch and allowing passage of a watch-strap.

2. A cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cover extends beyond the watch-glass

3 A cover as claimed in claims 1 and 2, wherein said cover contacts a watch-casing.

4. A cover as claimed in claims 1, 2 and 3, wherein said cover has extended portions capable of gripping the watch-casing.

5. A cover as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the cover is contoured to fit a watch-glass.

6. A cover as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein said cover is capable of adapting to a variety of watch size and/or shape.

7. A cover as claimed in claims 1, 2 and 6, wherein said cover substantially encloses a watch-casing.

8. A cover as claimed in claims 6 and 7, wherein a hinged base forms a box-like constructions with an upper part.

9. A cover as claimed in claim 8, wherein the upper part has upstanding portions forming an open dish, with hinging between said upstanding portions and the base.

10. A cover as claimed in claim 8, wherein the base part has upstanding portions forming as open dish, with hinging between said upstanding portions and the upper part.

11. A cover as claimed in either of claims 9 or 10, wherein cut-outs are provided in said upstanding portions to allow passage of a watch strap.

12. A removable wristwatch cover substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawing.
