Abstract

Antenna bases which are capacitively coupled with the vehicle, or any other groundplane, by any appropriate method comprising of a dielectric or material of suitable permeativity. The antenna is thereby coupled to ground enabling alternating current to pass in the form of radio frequency, but not allowing direct current to pass and thus isolating it.

Description Isolated antenna bases This invention is a range of antenna bases using the same technical principle.
Antenna bases used for mounting antennae to vehicle bodies will have potential to the vehicle cab or chassis (or to any other groundplane) in most cases connecting the vehicle cab or chassis to the negative potential of the vehicle via the antenna leed (feeder). This is acceptable in most cases, however, if the vehicle has an isolated return wiring system then it is unacceptable to connect the chassis/cab to negative potential.
The present invention allows an antenna to be fitted to an isolated return vehicle chassis/cab (or any other groundplane) without connecting the chassis/cab to negative potential via the radio. This is done by making the antenna ground connection to the chassis/cab capacitive thus enabling it to be part of the radio frequency circuit without allowing direct current to pass. An added advantage of a capacitively coupled antenna base is that it will always guarantee the antenna's connection to ground without having to scrape away or pierce any paintwork or any other insulative L'W surfaces, as direct current is not required to pass and the capacitive coupling of the antenna to ground can be guaranteed.
The antenna base may be fastened, attached or secured by any suitable method which comprises of a dielectric or material of suitable permeativity.

  1. Claim
    An antenna base which is capacitively coupled to its vehicle, or other groundplane, which is fastened, attached or secured via any suitable method comprising of a dielectric or material of suitable permeativity thus isolating it from direct current, but allowing an alternating current to pass.
